Still I'm pretty excited, while Shirakura, Inoue and Tasaki are inconsistent with their work, I'm still happy they got the original staff to work on this. It's much worse to rely entirely on a single person who will have to retire sooner or later. And that's the issue. Inoue wasn't the main writer but seemed to still act with authority due to his seniority and fame at the time, so you get the show twisting itself when Inoue doens't line up with Yonemura (like Inoue introducing Tsurugi as a serious rival for Tendo, while Yonemura immediately made him a joke and had him gravitating more towards a Kagami friendship, then Inoue gets the episode where Kagami is supposed to learn Tsurugi is a worm, but since he doesn't care about any of that it gets just a few minutes of a two partern, completely unrelated to the main plot, and with little reaction or impact, and, of course, Tsurugi's final arc is by Inoue again, so the Kabuto rivalry suddenly takes center stage after being forgotten for months).

Today is January 29 in Japan, 20 years since the premiere of Kamen Rider Kabuto. Say anything about the man who walks the path of heaven and his series on his 20th anniversary.

Even in the movie, that was show fairly early on, it turns out Zect was working for the "2nd stage Worms" that look identical to the Native worms from the show. This was 100% planned.

Riku throwing random factors the worms couldn't control (He mentions the gates of hell opening right before Yaguruma returns with the Kick Hopper Zecter).

This one was a Inoue vs Yonemura thing. Inoue wanted him as a brocken version of Tendo that was his rival with a dark secret, Yonemura wanted him as Kagami's goofy friend with a dark secret. Inoue did use him for humor too later on though (although doing random stuff like pairing him up with Hoppers), but then brought back the Kabuto focus for the finale.

This one is the main excuse for kicking out Riku from Zect's leadership, as an example he had been plotting against the Native.

She interacted with Kagami a lot in the first half and was supposed to develop a romantic relationship with him (Yonemura published a post-Kabuto short novel before the series actually ended which just started with the assumption they'd get together during the later episodes, which ended up not happening). She's isolated to Tendo-only exactly when they need to reduce her actress' role and she could barely appear outside of limited sets.

Overall I'd say the bigger/unique gimmick item, especially if it has special engineering to make the belt look different like Xtreme or Over Master.
It has the same visual effect of a separate item but feels more consistent with the Rider's identity and seeing the item pop open as the transformation begins is super cool.

Ryuki was the first series I actually saw, even though it had the bad HK subs. After that I saw 555 and I was hooked.

Much as I enjoyed Kabuto, the second half was pretty disappointing, and I can't say I felt the same way about the series after Den-O.

I've been tempted to go back and rewatch Kabuto-Decade one of these days since I watched all of that as it aired, which was when TVN was the only reliable sub group at the time and I know the quality of their subs at that time was highly questionable (e.g. banana new shoe).

Melon Energy and Jimber are Japanese style armors, which don't fit Baron's European knight aesthetic. Baron and Duke are the same type of Rider, and thus the latter's Lemon Energy is a European type armor as well. In fact, the JP Wiki states that there was initially a proposal for Kaito to steal Ryoma's Genesis Driver and transform into a differently-colored Kamen Rider Duke .

Also, one of the reasons they gave Baron a power-up was so that he could have a power balance with Gaim. Baron Lemon Energy has nearly all-around better stats than Jimber Lemon, and at that point in the series Gaim had already gotten Kachidoki, so giving Baron a power-up that was somewhere between Jimber and Kachidoki power-wise was a better choice than giving him a form that was only on par with Gaim's previous upgrade.

There's no point in fretting over how Decade's death in ZvD fits into the continuity because it has already been established that he can always revive as long as people remember him back during his first death in Movie War 2010. Even Woz hinted that he'll come back, so that death literally doesn't matter.

Also the Gotchard movie can't take place in the past because of all the crossover that have happened since Zi-O.

All this discussion of timelines is pointless, because the timeline is whatever Toei says it is. Tell me, do all Kamen Riders exist in the same world, or do they exist in separate worlds? Or do some exist in separate worlds and only crossover when needed? Do Riders and Sentai exist in the same world? They did for a while, or maybe they didn't. Maybe Riders don't exist, or maybe they do. Maybe Riders can literally just be imagined into existence. Personally, I'm glad Rider doesn't have a rigidly strict timeline that has to be militantly adhered to like doctrine, it doesn't needed western comic style set in stone timelines as long as everything is entertaining to watch.

this thing is so unique I can't help but respect the audacity of it. Refreshing to get a belt that's fun without having a trillion fucking gimmick items to BUY BUY BUY

Makes me miss Riders like Kuuga, Agito, Den-O, or Kiva. Riders with not many form changes but they get a healthy amount of usage. Den-O and Kiva in particular are really fun for those gimmick figures that replicate form changing. Gaim and everything after Drive form changes just felt like they didn't really have much impact behind them. Hard to explain.

Because the toylines changed. Back then you buy a belt you get everything that can be used with it. Den-O, Kiva and Decade can access all their initial forms. With Double you still get that but Metal and Trigger are locked behind weapons. OOO is fully the first one where you need add-ons and it only goes from there.

If Kiva was made today Fuestles are full time gimmick, and Kivat belt will only give you a Wake Up Fuestle, and even a transformation Fuestle. No more Kivat biting you.
