What obscure, forgotten, or otherwise unexplored figures would you like to see represented in a sidegame like underworlds or warcry?
Hard mode : noroot kings or silent people

I thought their whole schtick was balance, hence the fuckhuge cow helmet
>>
>>
>>97468472
the whole schtick is having to fill the shoes of white lions, so they got the other big weapon and another animal
except high elves had a number of other animals scattered between their units (dragons, horses, fish, eagles), so if lumineth ended up having only these guys' totemic animal then people would erroneously assume lumineth are cow-elves, so they decided there would be 3 other temples, each one being a rough opposite of a chaos god, but really the mountain guys are the fundamental ones both because they were conceptualised first, because it's only their animal's horns that mirror the moon symbol teclis is carrying (and it's the only reason the other temple animals get horns added to them), and because their conceptual sphere is the one opposite to the important chaos god for elves, slaanesh, and most exemplary of the whole zen peace

Warcry is sick and all the rules are pretty easy to find online. Try and find the 1ed compendium stuff and then you get warbands from all the aos factions too and they've got huge rosters

>>97468521
I didn't know that about the temples being opposite to the chaos gods. Is that canon or just logical interference on your part? Anyway, the cow is anti slaanesh, how do the other matchups work? If I had to guess i'd say river horse is anti nurgle, cleansing moving water vs nurgle's stagnancy.
>>

>>97468268
I already ignore the rules and don't buy any of the books because they change too fast. A two year cycle would just be GW digging it's own grave, but it doesn't matter because it's obvious bullshit, it would never work.

I genuinely think they'd fit better in tow plus we already have two aquatic factions anyway. Also in general gw should focus on developing existing factions instead of making new ones for now.
Now regardless of how I feel about things I do think they're a reasonably likely candidate for 5th edition's starter set if gw wants to stick to the chaos->death->destruction->... pattern
>>
>>97469295
>plus we already have two aquatic factions anyway.
There's three, actually, and other factions have some nautical potential as well but are in a dubious position.
>Also in general gw should focus on developing existing factions instead of making new ones for now
I dont think they'd be making it a new faction but rather soup them into something already existing. Or ideally, as has been suggested, they'd use them as a framework to bring back legions of Nagash.

We have constant GHBs that completely change how the game is played in totally arbitrary ways already.
And this edition is garbage, it can't end soon enough, but also I doubt next edition will be better, I don't have any confidence in the current rules team.

Yeah, the purple is eidolon purple airbrushed over silver (with shading done to the silver beforehand). I tried to airbrush flames on my dominator engine but it didn't work out as well and I ended up layering anyway. Turns out layering flames just looks better as an end result.

Sounds like they just threw away unsold stock to clear shelf space, or possibly for some tax loophole, and the internet then went and made up some bullshit about because the truth wasn't scandalous enough for a youtube scream video.

Nta but I've heard it said that idk was basically alan merrett's passion project. Since he left they haven't really bothered much with it, especially as it's nly too popular of a faction. Why the fuck aren't they back? They fit perfectly with the desolation tokens mechanic. They don't look any less fitting in the greater faction than the other chaos Warcry units. And it's not like the designers somehow forgot about them; words like "Hashutaar" and "Flamehurler" were first used for them.
>>
>>
>>97471547
It's baffling to me too. They fulfill a role in the army, their fluff matches perfectly with that role (desolation points, like you said), they would help with unit variety in a small new army, literally perfect fit. They're somewhat different aesthetically but so are half the warbands, askurgan trueblades stand out like a sore thumb in soulblight. It's just a very weird decision. Only possible justification I can come up with is that GW really wanted to ensure you buy the new stuff but that seems thin.

Just binged both seasons of Blacktalon and it was good. It was actually really, really good. Great story, fantastic twist, fun characters, good villain in the form of Hendrick, even the animation improved quite a bit by the end. Voice acting was also great.
Best by BY FAR was Lorai. Loved her character and storyline.
I'm very pleasantly surprised, and I might actually pick up the Blacktalons to paint and add to my Stormcast.
Anyone else watched it?

yeah, it is quite good, despite the terrible animation. I wouldn't call Hendrick the villain of the story, that is Be'lakor's role. I also think that Lorai was great, but i was surprised how much i ended up liking Shakana and Rostus.
If you want more of them, i do recommend the Blacktalon book that came out ~2 years ago. It has one of my favorite character moments from all of AoS in it.

Lo and behold, every* single mainline stormcast kit ever released.
I'd like to gauge some /aosg/ community consensus; what would (you) say was the single BEST and WORST stormie mini released? I counted 64 distinct kits, excluding limited edition stuff and sidegame releases. I also didn't bother with differentiating between build options or ETB vs 'full' releases. Otherwise you could probably add another 25 entries into this list AT LEAST. Oh, there's also the blacktalons which I left out because they're kind of a special thing, but feel free to count them.
Anyway because there's no shot any of you actually remember the stormcast naming schemes, here's the list. strap in, it's a doozy:
1. Vandus/lord celestant on dracoth
2. Lord relictor (fatcast
3. Paladins (retributor/decimator/protector)
4. Liberators (fatcast)
5. Prosecutors (fatcast)

16. Dracothian Guard (lord celestant on dracoth/ like 5 other dracoth variants)

53. Lord vigilant (on gryph stalker)

57. Liberators (thunderstrike)
58. Prosecutors (thunderstrike)
59. Reclusians

62. Tornus the redeemed/ knight azyros (thunderstrike)
63. Iridan the witness/ lord vigilant (on morrgryph)
64. Lord relictor (thunderstrike)
Alright, that's all of them. I had to compress things a little to get the file under 8mb but everything should be visible enough.
Personally, I think the best one is the og knight questor from silver tower. Honourable mentions go to slimcast prosecutors, the squatted lord excorcist and finally the retributory paladins. Worst has to be anything on a dracoline. Ugly fucking creatures.

I do kind of miss the art deco of fatcast. Let me split up things per edition:
>1st edition (fatcast)
Best: knight questor
Worst: prime
>2nd edition (sacrosanct)
Best: castigators
Worst: dracolines
>3rd edition
Best: annihilators
Worst: mhm, nothing particularily stands out. Maybe the imperatant? Oh wait hold on the fucking pixar dragons.
>4th edition
Best: vigilant on gryphstalker
Worst: new celestant. Not that bad, just kind of a downgrade imo.

I like the holy water grenades too, they're pretty fun. I'm trying to find some secondhand castigators to run as vigilors, and while they're plentiful they're often in annoying unit sizes to use as proxies. Kind of takes the fun out of secondhand if shipping ends ups making it cost as much as new y'know.
Anyway cool sorcerer anon, how are you finding the new nurgle stuff? I heard it was dreadfully bereft of options, you reckon you could make some easy weapon swaps if you wanted at the very least?

I could forgive blight kings being kind of anemic on offense, but they're not even any better in terms of wounds/saves than pestigors for their points.
Rotswords on the other hand are absolutely going to be a staple, 20x of them with all of their really easy buffs are going to be a nightmare to shift and surprisingly killy (for Nurgle)

If it all actually hinged on the daemonsmith then it was probably for the best. And if not then, well, I guess you finally found the excuse you were looking for to make yourself not splurge on the new and shiny.

Just haven’t been interested in spending any more money so I’ve been working on stuff I already own. I was willing to splurge for the incentive mini, but without that I’m content continuing with the couple things I’ve still got lying around for my current armies.

This bitch is next up for painting. I was thinking of maybe making her a red headed vampire instead of the standard black or white hair. Think it would look weird? Any suggestions on a base color?
I'll have to think about the rest of her armor and clothes color. Maybe a brighter steel color but keep the leathers red.

>boring
a lot of people like OBR for the more monster mash/ bone construct stuff which is probably why they were dissappointed. The primary identity of OBR is normal mixed arms force but undead and if thats what you want you'll like it. The new units do what they look like, the chariots are fast flankers, the archers will offer ranged support and to be annoying enough to pull your opponents attention away from the heavy hitters. The new assassins apparently have an ability that lets them ignore terrain pieces for the purpose of movement allowing them to get into combat in scenarios your other non-flyers can't. If your looking for a faction of undead that feels like an actual army, you should pick up OBR

Time to start on these guys, unfortunately my local shop doesn’t have any Bull centaurs, any HOH players here who have ran artillery armies?
>>

Enjoy your manlets anon. You planning to use the commemorative daemonsmith or just a painting project? Can't help you with your question but razers seem quite good, bulls are definitely the backbone of your army though.
>>
>>97478476
Even gameplay aside, no bulls hurts, I'm painting an Ur-Zorn army so Bull centaurs are thematic.
As for the commemorative daemonsmith, I'll use him, but I'll paint him in the "cannon" colors, I paint all named characters that way
>>
>>97477512
not boring, just traditional. they're structured and built like how you would expect a traditional fantasy army to be, shield wall infantry in front of catapult artillery supported by flanking cavalry and a rear command of supporting officers and sorcerers
i dont personally play them but my regular opponent does, and i wouldnt use boring to describe them
and the models are definitely not boring

At last the identity of Lord Leech is confirmed to be none other than Festus the Leechlord. That might seem like nothing but in the strictest sense it was never flat out stated in the Warcry material. Although I don't know why these guys would be associated with the Blessed Sons and not the Filthbringers, who act as Festus's minions over in Ghur.
>>
>>
>>
>>97479201
That’s pretty lame. I imagine a big refresh would be the time new players take a look at the faction, it seems counter intuitive. Doesn’t help that character buffs often make you roll to even get it most of the time.
>>
>>97479299
>Doesn’t help that character buffs often make you roll to even get it most of the time
one of the things i hate most about AoS: why in the holy fuck are some once per battle abilities only activated on a successful dice roll? once per turn abilities or casting/chanting i understand, but rolling a 1 or 2 for an ability that's one and done and having it not pop is so fucking infuriating
>>
>>97479299
It doesn't really hurt new players because they can just go "oh, thar units bad, I'll just avoid that when building my army". It doesn't hurt them because they don't own the army yet.
It's really targeted at existing maggotkin players, to force them to shelve hundreds or thousands of points of their collection (blightkings were essentially the armies core unit, most people ran 600+pts of them, same with kharadron thunderers before) in a cynical bid to get people who already own an army of them to spend more money.
>>
>>97479421
the only other explanation would be incompetence on the part of the rules writer, no realizing how bad that warscroll is, and it just happened to fall on the unit people already owned 4+ boxes of.
but given how well written most of the other units in the army are, in both the case of kharadron and maggotkin, im inclined to believe thats not the case, they can clearly write strong or interesting units when they want to, and it was done cynically to force sales churn in the model range.

Alright so yesterday I did stormies, today I figured I'd try khorne. Same things as before, Which sculpts do (you) think are khorne's BEST and WORST. Since it's a much smaller range I did things a bit differently, and included sidegame stuff, as well as the remaining pre-aos sculpts that you can still buy from gw to this day. Still didn't bother differentiating between etb and normal releases, as well as a few alternate builds like for the bloodthirsters. Anyway, here goes:
1. Bloodletters
2. Bloodcrushers
3. Skullcrushers
4. Skull cannon/Blood throne
5. Bloodthirster (wrath/rage/fury)
6. Wrathmongers
7. Skullreapers
8. Skaarac the Bloodborn (literally who?)
9. Vorgaroth the Scarred on Skalok
10. Mazarall the Butcher (literally who?)
11. Mighty lord of Khorne/Vandus
12. Bloodsecrator
13. Khorgorath
14. Bloodstoker
15. Aspiring deathbringer
16. Exalted deathbringer (axe)
17. Exalted deathbringer (spear)
18. Slaughterpriest (axe)
19. Slaughterpriest (blade)
20. Skarbrand
21. Skullgrinder
22. Realmgore Ritualist
23. Deathbringer
24. Bloodmaster herald of khorne
25. Skulltaker
26. Bloodreavers
27. Blood warriors
28. Karanak
29. Flesh hounds
30. Claws of karanak
31. Garrek’s Reavers
32. Gorechosen of Dromm
33. Magore’s Fiends
34. Kamendora’s Blades
Personally, the worst is easily Kamendora's, but that almost feels like cheating so otheriwse it's the skullreapers. Best is a tie between the new deathbringer and skulltaker. You also gotta appreciate vorgaroth for the sheer madness of the sculpt.
Oh and if you're wondering about stormies, the silver tower questor and celly prime are currently front runners for best and worst respectively.

I assume you mean between reveal and preorder and not between announcement and preorder otherwise it's literally just a week. As for reveal, it depends. Can be a week or two before the preorder annoucement, can be months. Tow is still waiting on those cathayan peasants for example.
>>97481133
I was going to say you forgot the lord on juggernaut but they squatted his finecast ass the bastards.
Worst has gotta be kamendora's I mean come on. I quite like dromm's posse though.

>a squable between some demon and an ancient Lumineth witch that gets continued ad-infinitume because the demon respawns and the witch has clones (that don't know they are clones) she can possess at will
>aftermath of BR with Eater of Tome's demonologis aprentice showing up in the ruins of the spaceship they shot down to studdy the extra Tzentch corruption leftover by whatever Silver Tower shoots
Nothing Tzeentch related happend in BR, it was jsut Khorne in Aqshy and Nurgle in Ghyran.
Nothing with KO either, Skaven got the spotlight.
>>
>>97481368
>>97481388
Tzeentch has the misfortune of being linked to chamon which is probably the least cared about realm. Their spat there with ko in first edition was sort of relevant but since then it's been nothing but obscurity.

>GW chaos lore
>interesting
Pick one and only one. GW can't write chaos for shit. Its always "a birrion gorillion people were holocausted by random chaos schmucks plan, but then he was defeated, but it doesn't matter because chaos is the strongest and always wins by default in the end."
Tzeentch especially suffers from this nonsense writing because he's the LOLRANDUM XD god and writers think everything he does has to be mustache twirling schizophrenic nonsense.
>>
>>97481368
I guess it depends on where you were left off. This is all that I consider worthy of note, but it's mostly old stuff and tangential involvements in other factions
>the one survivor of the pre-chaos good beastmen of hysh, all killed at sigmar's orders out of prejudice, transmuted the hyshians into the twistfrays, after pledging to tzeentch for revenge
>the changeling, shapeshifted into a architect of great renown, was behind many important cities of sigmar, hiding secret dungeons and more in plannings
>a gaunt summoner picked up a skaven deathrunner in his silver tower to subtly guide him to fuck over nagash's pyramid, thwarting the necroquake and causing the current influx of magic that allows for spells to run rampant
>belakor picked up a skaven deathmaster (who's becoming a named model soon) to plant a bomb in a silver tower, and that has caused the chain reaction that's been fucking over chamon's realmgates and spawned the anti-reforging cursed skies
>lizardmen temple ships and tzeentchian silver towers have had and keep having void battles between realms, the wreck of one battle is at the heart of the gnarlwood
>chamon is one of the most chaos tainted realms because tzeentch fucked over the ritual the people of chamon were doing to stop their age of chaos, multiple of the ritualists were covert tzeentchians and the ritual was changed so it would move a godbeast in the middle of chamon, the lodebeast became the magnetic anomaly that's been twisting chamon's lands into the treacherously moving concentric continents ever since
>the sphiranxes were once intelligent and noble guardians of the lumineth libraries, but they were envious of the elves' ability to use the arcane knowledge of the books, so they made a faustian deal with tzeentch, who gave them a third eye to steal and use magic from the minds of others, at the cost of their own sanity

>When the sudden slaughter of a Freeguild marshal and his entire army casts a shadow over Hammerhal, Tahlia Vedra must leave her beloved Aqshy behind and step through the portal to Hammerhal Ghyra, where sinister plots are being forged by the Helsmiths of Hashut.
>The spiteful Zharrdron aren’t the only problems she has to contend with, as the verdant side of Hammerhal is full of unfamiliar faces looking to take advantage of the First Marshal’s arrival, and Tahlia is all but a stranger in her own city. Uniting her people will be a battle in itself, and she doesn’t have the luxury of time – for the Helsmiths wield a power that will spell doom for Hammerhal and all who reside within it.

Even with a proper paint job that makes them look like cannibals with blood dripping from their fucked up mouths, I can't imagine these look any good. Make your samefagging a little bit less obvious next time. Anyway good for them, though I'd like to remind you that both the normal warhammer fantasy and aos subs get mogged hard by the total war warhammer one, which has like twice the visitors and contributors. And that's not even the main tw sub which is 99% warhammer focused these days, and again has twice the amount of visitors and (almost) contributions of the spinoff one. Warhammer lives in the shadow of /v/ermin gentlemen, don't forget.
