are you intentionally retarded or just living under a rock
please go try and sell a transforming robot that turns into a realistic walther p38 to children in this day and age. Even ignoring the laws that stop you from doing that, you will get kids shot and you will get sued. And don't even try to start with 'don't make it a realistic firearm' because you'd complain if it wasn't cartoon accurate anyway.
I do agree we need a new g2 megatron though. We've gotten two goddamn laser prime molds now that don't have an accompanying Megatron.

Original release looks fine to me, don't give a shit about the leg color. Don't need the beaten up version just because of that.
>>11688195
>Still beating a dead horse
They can't make a pistol toy by law.
People still want a mainline G1 Megatron, so they went for a really clean robot mode with the next most logical alt mode.
They included a small version of his gun mode as a compromise.
That's all there is to it, there's nothing else to discuss. The gun isn't happening ever again unless it's a Japanese exclusive release like an MP or Missing Link.

They absolutely can make the gun form. The only stipulation in the USA is that there’s a bright plastic cap on the barrel, or the gun toy must be brightly colored.
> I do agree we need a new g2 megatron though. We've gotten two goddamn laser prime molds now that don't have an accompanying Megatron.
I would’ve been fine with a G2 Megatron in studio series style. But the slavish adherence to making G1 not a gun sounds more like a localization/cost issue than any legal compliance thing.
> You wouldn't be able to hold it like a role play weapon anyway.
Transformers can mass shift, anyway, so idc.

Dude, they even tried releasing the G1 Megatron in bright orange and blue chrome and even that was cancelled because they couldn't convince Toys R Us to stock it. The gun thing is more trouble than what is worth, nobody wants to risk any possible problems over a toy, no matter how loud they paint it.

That's not a toy sold at retail in the US, dumdum. The main target was Japan like any other MP design, those are Takara toys.
You obviously weren't around when retailers had to open the boxes of the MP Megatron and glue orange caps on the barrel for it to be able to be imported to the US.

Look really closely at some of the edges. The underside of the left arm and the left wing line for instance. There's a very small white glow. It's probably not noticeable on a phone but it is on a larger screen. Too much color punch up.
>>
>>11688625
Ohhhhhhhhh i see it. Yeah.
Is that what does that? if I had to guess I'd just say anon had tried to lower the brightness of the background, and imperfectly masked off the figure. due to that being basically impossible to do perfectly unless it's literally greenscreened in.

not to mention he's got ZZ cups of injustice. Fucker can't even clear them with his arms. though also his fists don't clear his arm armor, so that's kinda moot.
in terms of proportions he should be fucking laughable, yet somehow, it works. I'd love to see him redone with somewhat more modern sensibilities, but not FULL gundam. Just... a little less crazy. In fact I'd really like to see an Animated style version of this design.

Cool. I'm sure you know how important light is. Indirect light from say a window or desk lamp with white tissue paper over it to diffuse works good. On your iPhone tap and hold on the figure until you see AE/AF. Slide your finger down to slightly darken the shot. You might even wanna try Portrait mode.

I really don't see how it's all that different from what MPs used to be. It isn't toonshit, this is true. But if not MP where would it go? What makes it less deserving than MP-10? I think MP-10 has a slightly better truck mode but that's about it.
I understand not liking it. I even better understand not wanting it. Call it MP-10-2 if you want. You have a better argument for MPG Hot Rod.
>>
>>
>>11688823
the mask is kinda falling away
Though some of the decisions I feel like it's because the idiots upstairs asked for one thing (say, Blackarachnia having black spider legs for more realism) and they pushed like "hey what if we did the toy deco Blackarachnia" and internally going (so you can swap out the orange spider legs...) like maybe the designers are looking out for us... ..heh..
>>
>>11688823
It's even more annoying, because they also seem to have changed the dark brown for black, so it's like a huge fuck you to people interested in both releases:
-Normal release fucks up several colors and lacks the purple gun
-Damaged release has all that, but they didn't paint over the battle damage correctly so it looks awful.

>Why can’t he just be the damn pistol like he’s supposed to be?
Because at least 50% of transformers buyers are still kids, and they don't want to sell a guy to a kid for fear of being sued. The law allows for it with specific actions, but that doesn't mean they won't have to pay off settlements not to mention pr.
Big toy companies are risk averse because kids are fickle and they can already hit slumps by something just not being "in" that year.
Not to mention, the gun was in fact a real gun, a walther p38. Walther currently licenses to airsoft makers, which qualify as toys, so hasbro might also just might not have the ability to get the legal rights either. Not to mention g1 used accessories from "the man from Uncle" which got a reboot movie 10 years ago, so the rights might get muddy. It's like how some g1 autobots just can't be their g1 alt modes anymore.
And making it a knockoff gun that doesn't look like a walther p38 but still looks like megatron... I dunno if that's possible.
They should have made him a rail gun. Still has the pistol look, but not the shape.
>>
>>11688868
>guys it's not even the right altmode
>aren't all other quibbles pointless?
Not really, no, since ss86 was always about getting as close to picture perfect robot modes as possible.
Kup was such a let down, and that was the only one they tried to focus on the alt mode. And he was in the first wave, so they've long since abandoned that.
>>
>>11688881
yeah there's so many cool alternate altmodes they could go with, some of which could be 3rdparty modded into a gun.
a tank is lazy and shows a lack of faith in their product. He should absolutely be a rail gun (that is, the kind on train rails, not a magnetic accelerator), or one of those rolling cannons..
>>11688884
ohhh in that case, yeah. I can see that being the priority.

I feel like the casual, brutal ways they were willing to kill off characters kids had spent 60 plus episodes with is not only what makes The Movie work, it's also what has allowed Transformers to survive past the 80s. I hope they do battle damaged/dead versions of every character that got it just so I can eventually have a section of my TF The Movie shelf that's all robot corpses.

>I think the closest I ever had as a 90s kid was Beast Wars Optimud Primal but Rhinox goes to the astral realm the next episode and he came back shortly after that
For me it's the end of BW season 2. BW Megs blowing off Prime's head, like the first 30 minutes of The Movie, really leaves you with the feeling that the good guys are well and truly fucked in a way that they can't come back from.

>And Bob getting sent to the internet in ReBoot.
i'm 40 and i'm the 90s kid i never saw Transformers The Movie as a kid (in fact...there are no memories of 80s cartoons in my brain - i start to remember TV-shows only from early 90s).
And fucking YES so much yes Reboot...
reboot was my first "trauma" (if we don't coount Don Bluth cartoons and Lion King) - it was when Enzo gets his eye cut by that Diablo-guy and next episode he grows up.
it blew my mind and it was the first time TV-show made me feel sadness and danger.
PS:
since im 40 and i dont remember cartoons in the 80s...i assume all those people who want "cartoon accuracy" and enjoyed Transformers in the 80s ...they might be close to 50 i guess...

>Watership Down
these examples are complete bs. It's what i call "TOP10 le ebin creepy youtube cartoons"
Nobody was scared of such stuff back then.
It was either edgy-cool or badass or fucked up but it wasnt scaring us.
It just made kids say "holy shit did you saw that cartoon where rabbits rip their faces off ?? :D Hahaha lol fuck it was fucking epic :D"
Cartoons that traumatized us were usually more profound and did so on a different level, showing the death of a relative (or a friend we've gotten used to over many episodes or a movie length) or changing the tone of the genre really quickly like with Reboot.
>>
>>11689043
Did they leave the theater crying and/or disowned the toys out of betrayal, or something?
>>11689087
>it's also what has allowed Transformers to survive past the 80s.
how?
>>
>>11689107
>how
Because it clearly left a strong emotional impact on the kids who saw it and people buy into stories more when the stakes feel real. Setting the precedent that you can kill off Transformers characters onscreen (due to being robots) was also fucking huge for media aimed at children during that time and for what it would mean for the franchise going forward. The Autobot shuttle massacre is what paved the path to shit like Dinobot's last stand and Starscream sacrificing himself towards the end of Armada.

Yeah, Japan doesn't give a FUCK about icing or just replacing a main character to sell toys. My favorite was watching Yatterman from the 70's which when it was time to introduce the big new toy had the episode start with the characters DIRECTLY addressing the audience saying "oh by the way this is our new mecha now hope you like it because it's not going away"

See this is why no one likes UTshit trology, literally watered down cartoons made by japs who still thinks transformers can only be consuned by literal toddlers. Not surprising since the toys are literal tonka toy bricks that only said toddlers would enjoy and caused the dark ages of transformers before michael bay came in and fixed it with a heavy dosage of g1. Literally nothing in UTshit trilogy did anything revolutionary or had stakes. No one developed any trauma or emotions unlike G1 where everyone cried because the literal childhood hero Optimus Prime fucking dies.

There's a TON of anime/manga that talks about how shitty the industry is. Bakuman, Paranoia Agent, Texhnolyze, Shirobako, Oshi no Ko, Angel’s Egg, Revolutionary Girl Utena... it seems like you don't really see that theme in western animation.
>>
>>11689702
I think it’s a mixture of somewhat better conditions in America and the majority of animation studios being owned by massive corporations. Warner Bros isn’t going to necessarily greenlight an animated movie that talks about how terribly they treat their animators. The “animation is for kids” idea in America also doesn’t help
>>
>>11689759
Western animation jokes come in three tiers

Wild King sparks some ideas for me. The concept involves color-coded elements. I came up with this idea because Optimus is red and blue, which will make him a fire and aqua element. This will create a new play gimmick where Optimus can perform a form change. In the drawing here, I just duplicated one drawing and recolored different elements just to illustrate my rough idea.
Think of it as something like Kamen Rider Geats and Build.

Actually, Go with the Flow was made instead of Dark Glass. While Larry DiTillo claimed that in an interview, the timeline doesn’t add up, since Transmutate was the immediate episode after Dinobot's death and Dino 2 wouldn’t show up until season 3. Also, Dark Glass was listed as part of Season 3 at BotCon 1998 (June 19, 1998), after Transmutate had already aired (March 10, 1998 or May 2, 1998, depending on the network)

You youths...
The phrase "conservative" was used more to describe values held by the post wwII America as a whole, not just politics back in the 80s and 90s. Hence why you'd have conservative Democrats or liberal Republicans (neo-conservatives)
What would now be called "traditionalists"
So plenty of issues that cut across party lines were called conservative even though it wasn't a left/right issue, it was a protection oriented mindset.
Same thing was true of the term liberal for most of our history. It only started meaning JUST the left during fdr, then went away, and made a come back with hippies.
Mn was heavily Democrat state government at the time of BW, most of the mid west was. But overprotective moms know no political party. They are as ubiquitous as schoolyard bullies.
>>
>>11690219
yes anon, and telling someone what they aren't allowed to see is liberalism. it's saying that other people's feelings matter more than your desires. It works on the basis of "whatever you think about is how you're going to act"
conservatism is saying that nobody SHOULD be trying to say those things, not that they shouldn't be allowed to, only forbidden from DOING them. It attacks the deeper root of the perceived ill.
Or it would, except yknow, the media. it's fantastic at whipping up well-meaning people into destroying their own side.
>But overprotective moms know no political party. They are as ubiquitous as schoolyard bullies.

Modded Generations Scoop with a new head/chest

Problem is that version is pretty rare and goes for like $200 on ebay. I'll probably just get Bulkhead at some point and do a new head for him.
>Sprocket & Rumbler
Ok these two I really don't know. They're pretty generic looking in bot mode without having any super obvious alt-mode details and FunPub gave Sprocket a pretty generic Cybertronian alt mode. I kinda like the idea of using SS TFOne Starscream as a base, removing the wings and making it more of a speeder style of thing, but that'd be a lot of work on my end.
>Windmill
Lol. Lmao even. Reusing a Gen Selects Rotorstorm sounds most appealing since they're both blue helicopters with pink accents, but again dropping $60 on a deluxe for a kitbash is dumb as fuck.
All things considered I'm probably never gonna get to the last two since they feel like the least significant of the Autobot bunch. That and the 6 I have already plus Rollout, Over-Run, Omega Spreem, and Circuit make an even 10 dudes, which is more than enough Action Masters in anyone's life.

No, the stipulation is far more than an orange cap. They can't sell realistic toy guns unless they're completely brightly colored. Nobody that wants a gun Megatron wants one in bright colors.
Also, toy guns are illegal to sell in California and New York. Hasbro isn't going to make a product they're unable to sell in the entire country, it would make shipping across states that can't sell it a logistical nightmare. And besides all of that, Hasbro doesn't want to be responsible for creating a product that ends up being involved in some kind of gun controversy. Imagine liberals getting pissed at Hasbro for making a realistic gun Transformer that some dumbass used to rob someone and got shot by a real gun in return.

What are you talking about? They're worried about making a product and it being involved with a controversy. You said the likelihood of that happening is the same whether they make it or not, which is retarded. If they make nothing, they have nothing to worry about. If there's no gun Megatron, there's no risk of it being involved with any of the things I mentioned happening.

Just the opening sequence alone was incredible to see with soo much detail as Unicron is tearing the planet apart.

Trying to make a somewhat coherent Beast Era timeline. I think this is a good general idea.
- Beast Wars season 1 (300 years later line cut in Japanese dub, hence why JPBW set far in future)
- Beast Wars II (characters are aware who Optimus Primal is)
- Beast Wars season 2
- Beast Wars Neo (originally aired directly after II, but takes place a couple years later in-universe, Cybertronians seem to have majority animal alt modes, not issue given BM Nightscream)
- Beast Wars season 3
- Car Robots (old Predacon logo, characters aren’t Technorganic, must be before BM ending, could be during BW season 3 or 5 year gap between BW/BM, do CR characters have communication with Cybertron?)
- Beast Machines (Vector Sigma acts differently from Neo, possibly changed due to Megatron's rise to power)
Apocrypha
- BM Magmatron bio describes BWNeo events in past tense
- Dirge appears in TotGD pre-BW
- Gathering and Ascending have BWII and Neo characters, takes place during BW season 3
- Shockaract saga is time loop, doesn’t affect anything

I think they’re pretty good. They’re very similar in tone to American Beast Wars in my opinion, so if you like that, you’ll probably like them too. As far as I can tell Iwanami didn’t have anything to do with them, so his dubbing quirks are missing. My only complaint is each series' pacing. II starts out super engaging and intriguing but slows down significantly in order to introduce more characters, while Neo starts really slowly to set up all the characters but has an amazing ending arc.

>Cybertronians seem to have majority animal alt modes,
point of odor:
if we're including Beast Machines as canon, then Cybertronians still mostly have vehicle modes. Nightscream was an odd one, finding a fossil bat, serving to clue us in that Cybertron used to be organic.

The whole point of Missing Link is that it's the original toys with modern articulation added. A Missing Link BW Megatron would just be his original Ultra-Class toy, but with ankles and MAYBE a robot hand added inside his pincer/lance tail thing.
Honestly, there's really no point to doing Missing Link Beast Wars/Beast Machines toys, because most of them still hold up today; they were nowhere near as janky as the G1/G2 toys.
>>
>>11690860
I say they need help, but I do agree that merely adding a few points of articulation wouldn't be enough. I'd rather they get the.. well, for lack of a better example, the playmates tmnt treatment they've been doing lately, where they make a new figure based on the old one, meant to represent it, in the same size, but with its goofiness ironed out.

>>11690884
I believe I have heard people making that comparison, yes.
>>11690895
that's a good observation.. i bet both of those were proposed designs for transmetal 2s before they decided what they wanted those to be.
>>
>>11690895
The fact that Primal specifically cites the Oracle telling him the Beast Wars happened to bring organic beast modes back to Cybertron, Cheetor finding nothing out of the originary of the Vehicon altmodes and seeing them as typical cybertronians instead of noting how weird it was they were vehicles, and hell the BW crew all noting their beast modes as new to them(and implying they picked up new names) all point to beast modes being uncommon on Cybertron. At least not standard.
The BWII crew also had to reformat to animals.
With Neo it's vague but the manga, while not compatible with the anime for a lot of reasons, makes them colonists from other worlds, and I can see them coming preformatted with beast modes already when they get assigned to Big's crew
>>
>>
>>11690913
Neo implies that by then, everyone used organic beast modes for convinience, and have done so for a good amount of time, which does add to the impression that II happened a long time go, even if they never explained where most of the cast of II was during Neo.

So adding to this, one concept for a Dragon Megatron would've just been the 96 T.Rex Ultra retooled into a dragon.
There's a pattern of inspiration between the US and Japanese side of the market that I noticed
Galvatron had his spark crystal type chest, the TMII imitate it, as well as the cyborg beasts
the BW Neo toys have three modes like Transmetals
BM has the best vs vehicle theme like BWII
>>
>>11690913
Later media would mention that Cybertron was still an organic planet by the time of BWII, but it was reformatted into a mechanical planet during Big's time. So while this is a retcon, you could say they were still figuring out if they should stick to organic or mechanical alt modes until they finally settled on organic by BWN.

fascinating. I like the bifurcated tail, but where the fuck does the lance come from?
it's also really sad how unsatisfying dragon-arms always are, especially given how Gundam seems to perfect them. Somehow in any kind of beastformer, having such a small, short-snouted head on a flexible neck-arm feels very unsatisfying. the t-rex head is the only one that worked, and ONLY when you make it properly large. I rewatched the first episode of Neo and caught this about Big's crew. I also find it interesting that Vector Sigma is the one the Maximals rely on for information in Neo. Maybe it was trying to subtly reformat Cybertron at the time, but was impeded by Neo's plot and Megatron's takeover, so it had to rely on the only beasts left to speed the process up
>>11690929
I’m convinced that this retool is what led to the whole “Inferno was meant to be a new body for Megatron” thing. Given it’s a dragon it was probably labeled something like “Inferno Megatron” which the BW writers mistook for the ant Inferno instead
>>
>>
>>11690607
I think Car Robots is the best of the trilogy, it's like the polished opus of what the first two were going for; that said, I think BW Neo has plenty of fun stuff about it. Love the characters, fun episodes, it's just not got the manic high energy that Car Robots would later hone lol. Big Convoy's characterization is pretty different from most Primes, but even if it's another trope of its own (lone wolf has to train cadets), I think it was still done sweetly. I'd say it's worth a shot, at least!
Some people really like BW II, and by god I tried to like it, but I couldn't. The art is terrible, really cheap and they plainly didn't know how to draw animals. And, I found most of the characters really lacking - too many really basic anime-comedy tropes that fell flat for me. And yeah what that anon said, I loathe the Jointrons especially lmao. HOWEVER, I love Scuba - that guy is always awesome. He's just a random extremely based dude in the middle of all this lmao. Maybe try it out, perhaps you'll gel with the show better than I did.

>>
>>11691000
i love anime comedy but dammit, you have to TIME IT right, and give it some depth. They did not do either. This is no Tenchi, or.. Excel Saga. and neither of those feels would really suit transformers anyway. If they wanted to add levity, they should have leaned more into like, hot-blooded hero conflicting with bored cynical guy type of humor. Anime around that time was usually pretty good at that. Give it more of the Azumanga Daioh feel and I think it would have worked a lot better.

I like 75% of beast wars' humor, it only falls flat when they think they're in a cartoon for a second.
Yeah yeah we had rock'em sock'em robots as kids, we get the reference.. it's just not funny. Funny would be if they had their own miniature versions of themselves as rockemsockemrobots, and then Primal walks by and sees it like "That's not a good use of our limited fabricator supplies, and as your commander... I get to play the winner next."

The Optimus-less period was even smaller than that, he came back in the season finale of Season 3, literally the season right after the movie. It’s wasn’t the series finale though, since Season 4 had 3 episodes, “The Rebirth parts I, II, and III”

So Neo's events ran parallel to Beast Machines? Well, there's the sakura watching scene at the end of the series, heavily implying it took place after Primal's sacrifice to restore Cybertron.
And by the way, I still think of Big's new crew as Wreckers.
>>
>>11691450
Primal is already absent in Neo but his fate isn’t widely known. Cybertron isn’t restored during Neo’s main story. No one reacts to Megatron’s final defeat because it’s still unfolding elsewhere. Only the final Sakura epilogue scene acknowledges Primal’s sacrifice.

Honestly, my head is still filled with the idea of a collab with Masters of the Universe, probably on top of the first trailer for the live-action movie, though for the Collaborative, they have to feature the 80's Filmation cartoon, no take-backs because it's as G1 as G1 gets for a rivaling company.

Official Japanese canon has them like this:
-Bw/BM happen, then several centuries pass. Primal is already considered a Legend on par with Prime.
-Events of II happen
-At some point, Cybertron is turned into a mechanical planet (they did this before with Athena and Micro) since Vector Sigma realized they would need to be prepared for Unicorn's return due to enemies like the Blendtron's starting to appear. Blue Big Convoy is killed fighting the Blendtrons.
-Events of Neo happen
It's also implied by Lio Convoy, that at least for him, the destruction of the Nemesis flung him across time and space, sending him way back into the past, even before the Autobots and Decepticons woke up on Earth so he had to wait out millions of years before he could go back home.

take the money you used to use to pay them, and use it to pay employees, shareholders, and to make the products CHEAP. so then you make even MORE money
executives have literally no purpose. Not a single one of them is qualified for his job, but if they absolutely insist, they can take a standardized test to determine the top 10% most qualified ones who get to keep their jobs (at 60% pay)
No cheating, either. they'll be supervised.

>finally got around to opening Tigerhawk to see if I want Razorclaw or not
Good figure, transformation is complex but mostly intuitive. Only bad part is trying to line both the tabs up with the arm of the Beast Mode chest. Will probably grab Razorclaw on sale and see if he has better QC for easier lining up. Can't go wrong with black repaints.

Half the Beast Wars gang almost
Artfire

The Grimlock Dinobot
I heard Transmute does

I liked the gold eyes at first, and I assume that's how he looks whilst in shoulder mode in the anime (when his mane goes all angular by magic) since that's typically what Beast Wars did (in the show) for beast mode eyes, blank them out in robot mode suggesting 'the consciousness has moved'
something the non-MP toys obviously never did.
but now.. yeah I'm definitely gonna putty these up and try to do my own cool anime lion face. i've saved references.

On paper he's a decent collab figure and then EVERYTHING about him lets you down in looks.

Hasbro had to switch plastic suppliers from one to a bunch during 2020 because different countries shut down differently

Wrong. One of the front legs ball joints is super loose in mine, same with the rotating head panel that loved to detach until I modified it because the sculpt was worse than the original. Also the tail is packed mid transformation, forcing the little bump that keeps it in place in lion mode to push on the white plastic until you remove it from package, making the tail floppier.
Maybe it's one of those things that changes from toy to toy, but on mine the tolerances are clearly worse than on my legacy. So don't go around calling people hamhands when I could very well reply that your standards are just shit.
>>
>>
>>11691970
Because the 2 new Overgears are almost seemingly based on the 2 Energon toys below. Ironhide on the left clearly has his Energon counterpart's head and Blackout doesn't have much similarities other than the name, the fact they both transform into a helicopter and the head on Overgears Blackout is a visor just like the Energon version. The latter might be a stretch but the former you can definitely see Energon Ironhide's likeness in it.
>>
>>11692615
>Wrong
Bro, you're the first person to claim he's got worse tolerances, and I'm literally holding mine right now and not seeing any of the problems you're describing. Maybe you fucked it up yourself, or maybe you just got dealt a shitty hand in the QC Lottery, but no one else that has him has mentioned any tolerance issues - the only complaint so far is the missing pistols and the inability to mount them all to his mane in lion mode.
>>
>>11692615
While not as bad as yours, the joints on my 40th Anniversary Lio Convoy are a lot worse than the Legacy version too. But it seems odd to me that there would be such a significant difference on only the third use of the mold.
This is just a guess, but I wonder if it had something to do with the assembly error that pushed back the release date. It's been reported that pretty much all the copies of the figure were assembled wrong in a way that prevented the transformation, but it was caught at the last minute after they were already being packaged and ready to ship, so Takara literally decided to open them, fix them, and put them back in the boxes. That's why when you take it out of the box and look at the tray, there are so few plastic bands holding it in place compared to how many holes there are for them. So my theory is that when they were fixing all the figures, they were in such a rush that some of the workers probably man-handled the figures so badly during disassembly and reassembly that it would've put a ton of wear and tear on the joints, the equivalent of ham-handed fans clumsily playing with their figures in a way that wears the joints down over time, but all at once instead. Again, this is just a guess based on what we already know about the assembly issues that delayed its release, but it makes more sense to me than the mold degrading faster than it ought to.
>>
>>11692626
>Ironhide on the left clearly has his Energon counterpart's head
I'm not seeing it. The biggest distinguishing features of Energon Ironhide's head are the bucket helmet with two cylinders coming off each side at about 30 degree angles. This new Overgear Ironhide lacks any of that, and instead seems to have at least one antenna-ear going straight up on the side (maybe a second on the other side too, but it's hard to tell), as well as a mohawk reminiscent of G1 Ironhide's. The only thing I can spot even somewhat similar to Energon Ironhide is that Overgear Ironhide seems to have a prominent brow ridge, but even that is in a completely different shape. Maybe there'll end up being some smaller, Energon-inspired detailing in the sculpt that are harder to see in this picture, but to say "you can definitely see Energon Ironhide's likeness in it" is a huge stretch at this point.

Well I suppose he doesn't have Energon Ironhide's head 100% but its there, at least the face looks like him. You can easily see it as Ironhide wearing a different helmet. At least the resemblance is far more similar to Energon Ironhide than any other Ironhide counterpart.
>>11692661
And yet both of those names can be applied to the Overgear toys and remain very fitting and true to their character.

>the designers do want to be more transparent, but the corporate leaders and lawyers are constantly breathing down their necks.
Of course. That's because any sort of public statement affects stock value, which is all that matters to any company. If someone from hasbro says "yeah, we fucked up and produced a large quantity of low quality product" then suddenly a zero disappears off of some desk jockey's paycheck because 90% of the money held by the wealthy isn't actually tied to any meaningful labor or product.
As long as they say nothing, there's the plausible deniability that the yellowing is someone else's fault.

I'm not going to scroll through the thread and find all the posts about it to reply to them.
Canonically, NA Beast Era and JP Beast Era are two different universes.
The NA universe consists of only two entries:
- Beast Wars
- Beast Machines
Yes, not even G1. Beast Wars is not a direct sequel to any particular G1 story. It instead makes up its own G1 backstory copying bits and pieces of cartoon and Marvel lore, plus some shit it just makes the fuck up.
The JP universe is a lot bigger.
- all the G1 animation (G1 JP dub, Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone)
- Beast Wars JP dub (time travel to and from the past)
- Beast Machines JP dub
- Beast Wars II (massive timeskip between BM and II)
- Beast Wars Neo
- various comics and media fill in gaps throughout, most noteably, explaining that between BM and II, Cybertron returned itself to a metal world to prepare for Unicron's activity in Neo.)

First impressions: Bringing a movie design out of Studio Series is downright unfair. And I don't care if he can do the Voltron Force thing (he can be both a chest and a limb in a combiner frame), the only truth we get is that he's telling us who will be this year's HasLab: his better FunPub version, complete with an Enigma that can expand his molded-in Prime Master sigil like an Energon Star. Unless his FunPub version could also be released bit by bit in the next Generations flagship line running parallel to Defensor (since all his component bases are now made as toys, being Onslaught, Vortex, Air Raid, Blast Off, and probably Nosecone as a heads-up for Computron at some point)

I like Micronus...but yeah, he's a weird mess of ideas and the interview about his design process showed a lack of care to anything about what he is or how he related to mini-cons, only "oh boy I can make a unicycle"
Which is a fun unicycle, but still pretty whatever when it comes to the character itself.

I shared these over on /mrg/ a while back when I first got him. He's called Warudaroars, and like all of the Diaclone reboot stuff, he was expensive - I got mine for around $144ish when he first came out. His aftermarket price...well, good luck. He's supposed to combine with another Waruda mech to make a robo-centaur (sphinx?), but he's also a triple-changer in his own right.

I mean some of what you said is the truth, but including a mishmash of G1 and the comics doesn't stop Beast Wars from coming after G1.

My opinions are:
>Prima is a good on paper but his execution is middling. The upgrade kit coming out saves him though.
>Solus is fine but that's because narrative wise she serves Megatronus before being a master smith. She's basically an accessory, doesn't feel like a Prime when looking at her by herself.
>Megatronus is great. Feels like a Prime.
>Star Convoy is not Thirteen to me. Optimus or any variation should never be one of the 13. Do not like.
>I actually really like Alchemist but something about it doesn't feel like a Prime.
Micronus feels like a Prime as a minicon, not so much the robot armor. I'd argue the armor detracts from him a lot overall.
>Onyx feels like a Prime.
>A3 with that upgrade kit will make him feel like a Prime.
>Amalgamous feels like a Prime.
>Quintus feels like a Prime, but only when he's floating lol.
>fucking lmao at Nexus.
>Liege feels like a Prime.
>Vector Prime feels fucking botched and that upgrade kit doesn't save him for me. Can you tell I watched Cybertron as a kid? Might as well put in one of my spare Vector Primes from Cybertron into the group honestly.
I get eight, but only after a few get upgrade kits. Things could have gone better imo.
>>
>>11693734
>oh rad. somehow looks way chunkier despite just standing up
Well, there's a bit more to the transformation than that. His midsection opens up to reveal a set of wings and thrusters similar to Transmetal Cheetor, then his upper torso rotates forward and fills the slot left in the torso. This ends up shortening the length of his body and completely removes the narrow part of his waist, so his big chunky chest now just runs right into his hips with no taper to it, making him look beefier.
Also, that "plug" you see on his chest in two of those pics is actually just the connector piece for his combined mode; I didn't want to leave it in the box, so I stuck it on, but that's not normally supposed to be hanging off of him.
>>
>>11693634
Alchemist Prime looks great, but I detest his lore.
I could always ignore it, throw his matrix into a bin, and pretend he's Maccadam or some other cool weapons/chemistry especialist, but fuck him being a Prime.
>>11693641
It's a fun concept but everything about Micronus feels tacked on and underdeveloped to me.
I don't particularly care that they have been fleshing him out for like 15 years or something, I'm not going to watch that shit, but I fail to see how he could fit into the Armada/UT lore. Can he talk? That would be a dealbreaker. Why is the Apex Armor him-sized? Why not make him the Apex Armor if Mini-Cons were all about powering-up larger bots? Or bite the bullet and make the Apex Armor a separate thing he specifically powers up?
The more I think about it the more I hate the Thirteen.
>>11693725
With some tightening, I see it as a modern Diaclone KO, which arguably makes him cool. He's the straggler of my list.
Whatever Onyx is trying to do and the DEI hire didn't make it for obvious reasons, but at least Onyx only fell because of the terrible aesthetic they gave him. If he looked like he belonged in a G1 Transformers collection, as he's alleged to do, and not whatever stupid shit his design is trying to do, I would accept him. The engineering on him is actually pretty cool but I don't have the time to change the sculpt of an entire figure.

NTA, but Transformers is a Hasbro property - they're the final word on anything to do with the franchise. So being in agreement with the guys who own and run the thing is the logical choice, and anything else is just fanfiction.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11693856
It's not a "policy", you fucking idiot, it's a fact of reality. The property owner determines what is canon.
That's not to say that you can't dislike any determinations they make, or have your own opinions on how things should be. You can have headcanons. No one is arguing against you for that. You CANNOT, however, claim that those dislikes or options or headcanons are canon. It simply isn't true.
For example, the Cybertron cartoon is officially, canonically a sequel to the Armada/Energon cartoons, despite the actual finished product screaming that it isn't. I can prefer to think of it as a standalone series and enjoy it like that, but that doesn't change the fact that it... officially isn't.

Dude don't use their term, that's fucking gross. Say "transsexual." You have to say the whole thing. Or use an acronym like TS or something. Fitting, since it's TS for them.
You can't abbreviate something down to its prefix. That's as retarded and annoying as calling precum 'pre.' and then using it as a verb.

BW doesn't entirely line up with the G1 cartoon but there's also no reason not to just watch it as a follow up unless you're a really pendantic wiki nerd who gets into things like calling universes Epsilon Kappa 26 or whatever when you mean something like the Armada comic vs the show.

Pretty good. Scoronok looks complete unless he's missing the little head master and Trypticon is missing the car that goes on his chest but you have his head master. Still a gell of a deal considering you got two good titans
>>
>>11693897
For 75 burgers you hit a small lottery. The titans alone are worth at least 100, g2 deadend was short-packed and really annoying to find, and chop-shop was part of a now sold-out exclusive.
Skullgrin is the sole stinker here, but at least it was 2 bucks
>>
>>

Obviously plans changed in the years since Evan said no Optimus Haslabs. Difference here is Nexus was in development when Evan made that statement. You think they scrapped the gimmick mid-devolpment? You think Hasbro like wasting money? You actually think Hasbro looked at Nexus, the Prime of combining, and thought "Just make him a generic robot and phone in the alt mode. Fuck combining." Are you all that stupid?

All of these are great TOYS honestly, I just don't much care for most of these characters/designs. They're fantastic for what they are, though.
I own The Fallen and he's perfect; hope someone will make his long concept art cannon to replace the big purple brick tho. Make him less Megatron-y.
I'd gladly get Prima if they did him up in a Marvel colors + head release, otherwise I'm not into getting a literal white knight lel. I like Prima looking like a basic bitch BG character lol.
Same for Macaddam, I'd get him if he looked more like his Marvel UK self.
I'm probably getting Liege Maximo, but the headsculpt is funky - luckily, chances are high someone will make a custom replacement that'll be more comic-accurate.

I mean, if Beast Machines went Megatron takes over Cybertron, Maximals fight him, the Oracle helps them, Optimus ascends, Optimus fights Megatron, Cheetor becomes the new leader and then TransTech could've worked.
Another big factor was that the toys weren't selling well because, after two seasons of near perfect screen accuracy, they abandoned it for whatever the fuck it was they were doing with the deluxe horrorkong Optimus and SUPREME Cheetor. IIRC, the toys sold so poorly that they betted on importing Car Robots to keep the brand afloat rather than launch TransTech into production. Which is a huge shame because the TransTech prototypes look amazing.

I don't even think MP would work for some of them. They'd need to be third party where budgets have no limits for the paint and engineering. Like imagine how much work it would be recreate the glossy clear redbrown spider legs or the red spots on the body or all the fine metallic detailing for the castoff inner frame on the bottom left.
>>
>>11694391
>>11694381
They are not any more complicated or complex than bayverse designs. This is unironically the exact same mindset people had when the 07 movie was revealed only to get completely blown away with the rotf toyline.
>>
>>
>>11694403
Blackout, ROTF megs, Starscream, Jazz, Bonecrusher, Hotrod, Shockwave, Sentinel prime, and Grimlock all have extremely accurate and good figures. And the fact they were able to get Devastator into the toyline at all is impressive regardless of inaccuracies.
>>
>>
>>11694381 (me)
>>11694389
That cheetor looks to be more of a voyager size.
>>11694391
nah, MP could make them work but it'd be fucking expensive
>>11694401
My point is not that they'd be impossible overall. My point is that they'd be impossible to do at the deluxe price point that the timelines figures are afforded. Seeing as every timelines figure set so far has had one 'good' figure and one 'obviously compromised' figure, I'm wagering they have exactly two deluxe budgets to work with (with some slight leeway that probably eats into the other set's budget)
I do think maybe starscream would be possible but Optimus would very much be a shittier and uglier version of the WFC gamer edition Optimus design at a deluxe scale. Megatron would probably be possible.. but there's no accompanying bumblebee to go alongside him. So then they'd have to make do with someone else or make a new design.

Got my Brawl and Blast Off. Both are pretty good figures, and Brawl is like a brick. The only major complaints are:
-Blas Off's head is annoying as hell to pull out, so you need to carefully slot it side ways, with enough clearance to avoid chipping paint.
-Brawl has a similar issue with the head paint. The chest comes undone pretty easily and if you're not careful, you'll scratch the faceplate, on my copy the arms are very tight, so I have to be careful holding on the arm and chest.
-My Brawl also had the stress hinge joint, but I quickly sanded that down, so hopefully it doesn't get worse.

I genuinely feel Prima is the strongest of them actually.
I can get how he could need improvements.
The G1 head is ehh and I much prefer something like the Achai head.
Solus could be better as well, with you on that
Another release where 3P is doing the lifting.
Megatronus only really suffers from the thigh issue that I have yet to solve but haven't transformed him much.
Star Convoy truly feels like a big upscaled Voyager figure.
I'm only NOT regretting because I got him for sub $70 nearly. He is lacking so much.
Alchemist has become one of my favorites but this is very true, he doesn't really FEEL like a Prime.
His Accessory is weak for me, I'll be getting some extra's and he'll go right back to being a Bar Owner.
Micronus's main issue is the hips.
They stress very easily and as much as I really like him I'm hoping a 3P makes a better Micronus for the Exo Suit.
Onyx is definitely in the top 3 for me.
Feels so good and Prime like. Like he commands attention and has a strong presence, and the fan modes have been great.
His main weak point is the softer material wings and his Weapon being juuust lacking enough to bother me.
Too short for Staff
Bad Spear
No good connection to comfortably Bow Pose.
Trion is the only one I haven't picked up but between the DNA Kit and another I just don't know which to get or go HAM and get both and combine.
Amalgamous has definitely grown on me it's just the knee connection is weaker on mine or maybe that's just how he is? So it pops off a bit easily.
Quintus has such a great feel to them but yet I can't seem to get them in a great pose that FEELS like them to me. Could be my current lack of an actual Stand on hand
Nexus has "One of the of all time" vibes to him.
I don't even know where to start.
Liege looks pretty great from what I see so far honestly.
Vector, if it truly is meant to be the Legacy one is going to be a let down.
It NEEDS the kits and that's gonna make him almost $90+ alone.
