the exo force ones are cooler not because of nostalgia but because the size you get for the amount of bricks and a lot more detail about control (levers, cockpit, controls etc) they feel like real mechs not the giant bodys of today

I've ordered multiple small ninjago core sets mostly for the purpose of collecting all the minifigs but I got on these on the way:
>Lloyd's polybag mech
>Jay's Jet EVO
>Cole's..... hammer? ...I'm getting just the minifig on a foil pack.
I'll just be missing Nya, Kai and Zane and I'm wondering if I should just get them as just minifigs off bricklink or if I get Zane's mech and Kai/Nya's motocycle riding mech
Alot of mechs around here...

Fucking FINALLY done sorting the bootlego from the regular lego, took me like 4-5 hours of doing this with a break in the middle, genuinely awful stuff, but I sorted the regular lego back into the bag, while the bootlego weighs a bit over 2 pounds (like 20ish percent of the 9 and something pounds all of it weighed), fuck my life and I will have to do something similar again tomorrow at a bricks and minifigs to fill up a smaller bucket. Is likely worth 30 or more but I’m likely putting my offer at 25 due to the amount of manual labor needed to sort the two out, “doesn’t own much cobi” my ass

Biggest great pick of mine for bootlego besides my preexisting megabloks collection was likely pulling two Built to Rule wings from a flea market plus a bunch of fairly fine real bricks as well, just have to keep all the bootlego in the bag, maybe wanna see what paint replicates the violet color used on the dark blue Cobi bricks though for bionicle purposes since it looks really nice

The Shrek head is way too accurate compared to Fiona's regular minifig head. Farquad is also too similar to Clone Wars cancerface. They really should have worked out a coherent design philosophy first. Say what you will about the Simpsons minifigs, at least they matched each other.

>>

I feel like retirement affects prices but in a sloooowburn fashion
A set that retired 3 years ago isn't gonna be as pricy as a set that stopped being made like 17 years ago
But even then it shouldn't be anything too crazy lol
Also you should know that most times sets can stay up on the store shelves for months or years after being retired officially and you just gotta be lucky + know where to look I guess

It's a little triangular piece, not the usual sort of brick that comes in these. I've already checked, and I have nothing else like it. There were supposed to be two pieces like the one I'm looking for, and then two essentially mirror image versions for the opposite side of the ship, but from the way it looks, they gave me one for one side, and then three for the other.

The bionicle cmf had me digging and I just found out there was a whole line of mini bionicle that had Star Wars droid-esque minifigures. I’m trying to figure out what the heads are compatible with. It looks too narrow to put on a minifigure body, but would it be compatible with the friends bodies? Does anyone know? I’m thinking about getting some and Frankenstein-inf something together.

Your honest opinion?
Never was a fan of overly-detailed minifigs and that new shoulder piece actually looks kinda bad and comically oversized from a lot of angles.
Also I realized that when you swap out the shitty flesh head for a plain old-school black one my autism won't be triggered anymore from turning around the helmet while knowing the face underneath it is not facing the same direction because there is no face under it anymore.

why is Lego releasing Hogwarts in several incomplete $100+ sets? it's already too late to go back and buy the first several sets to connect them together
this part of it doesn't feel like a complete "thing". where's the door? it's a wall and a tower.
you think Lego would just sell the whole massive Hogwarts for $10,000 when they're finished with all the parts of it?

The vehicles are like 2000s era quality with modern design sensibilities (i.e., completely charmless and overdesigned while somehow being insultingly simplistic). They're awful in every way, and that's without getting into the gaping holes and shitty red bits. The buildings are OK, though. And that's without getting into the prices, which are an advanced level of comical.
>>
>>11693267
I've never liked those thick neck attachment pieces. They give everything giraffe necks that look much worse than whatever benefits the piece provides (admittedly, not as bad with a helmet, but it's still not good). They're not as bad as those tail pieces that make the character look like its clothes are too small, but only just. (Third is oversized head pieces.)
>>
>>
>>11693685

the idea is that superfans will want the fuckhuge minifig scale castle and if they drip feed them the components of it, they won't realize just how bonkers expensive the whole thing is going to end up being
a lot of the smaller sets also 'combine' with the castle as well, although in a much less impressive way than the old sets imo
>>
>>11693797
>a lot of the smaller sets also 'combine' with the castle as well, although in a much less impressive way than the old sets imo
What, you're not impressed by sliding collapsible classrooms into predetermined slots that rarely actually look good? Not even by being able to dump some poorly-fitting shit into the great hall? Never mind that you have nowhere to put the stuff that was there previously, it's MODULAR!
All that said, the big bits do look kind of nice at a glance from what I've seen of them combined. Not sure how anyone would display it though, and I doubt it would be convenient to play with.
I don't want to count fucking stars anymore, for fuck's sake. MAKE IT STOP.

A secondary inner head is probably even better than a printed one. The generic head doesn't really matter i guess. Just need to see the arms and sword now. Whoever designed him was definitely passionate about making it stand out, and this mask definitely pushes it in that direction.

Exactly. Vehicles are nothing without a place to travel, excepting maybe large vehicles like pirate ships that minifigs can move around in. Play requires movement.

They did a lot of weird colors around that time. Like the gold and silver masks from the blind bags, did they even use those for anything else? The rubber materials and whatever they colored them with as well. And that's not getting into the many molds that lasted a single wave. Modern Lego would have a conniption just thinking about it.

I have built a lot of mocs but I need to get more comfortable destroying sets. Sometimes I steal parts from sets for mocs, but I always add those to a Bricklink list so I know I need to replace them. I am happy to destroy sets for parts if they are small enough, but when I've spent £300 on something it feels bad to take it apart completely. How did other anons get over this mentality?

>>11693607
I don't personally, I've considered it before, but the IP tax price puts me off. The actual sets are okay but not anything I couldn't moc myself. Sometimes I look at them as inspiration for mocs and that's about it.

You’re right insofar as maybe the only recognizable location from yugioh is the general duelling arena, but why would we expect or need a location for these sets? As with Pokemon, the most prominent aspect of YuGiOh is the monsters. So expect a Blue Eyes or Exodia or something. Outside of that, you might get some buildable tat like the millennium necklace thing or those wrist-mounted card playing field things.
I can all but guarantee this isn’t going to be some robust line of sets. It’ll be at most a couple of the popular monsters + maybe some geegaws (likely as GWPs). I’m betting it’ll just be some one-off of a blue eyes.

I suppose you could even have a little duel diorama like this, ideally without the fuckhueg base. Include yugi and kaiba minifigures, could also include minifigures of more humanoid monsters.
A duelling arena with a bunch of swappable brick-built and minifigure monsters would actually be pretty cool. But we’ll almost certainly get a colossal statue instead of anything remotely “playable.”

this is a hilarious revelation of Lego's internal process.
--"does anybody know anything about Dungeons & Dragons?"
--"no..."
--"I've heard about it but..."
--"Not really..."
--"HEY! why don't we make a contest or something, and then, the fans will give us ideas!"
--"OMG! Brilliant! We can pick the biggest, most expensive idea, and it will seem like their own choice!"
--"and we don't even have to research anything about D&D, at all!"
--"wow. cool. we're done, then! meeting over."
later...
"hey, they want us to do a Yu-Gi-Oh set."
"what's that?"
"is that like, the cartoon with the card games and ridiculous hairstyles?"
"why don't we just do that contest thing, like we did with D&D, and be done with it?"
"ah! great idea! now where do we go for lunch?"
[discussion about lunch is now longer than discussion about what set to make for Yu-Gi-Oh]

Hang on, looking closely at what we can see through the holes in the mask, it looks like that is as far as the mask goes down on the minifig head. Can anyone confirm or deny?
>>
>>11694254
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
It looks almost like there’s a proper bionicle head behind the mask.
Is this giga-cope, or is there a chance that’s the full CMF tahu head just resting on another separate minifigure head?
Alternately, is this just some AI bullshit?
>>
>>11694254
>>11694256
Wait, you're right. There's no way that would cover a normal Lego person head the way that's shaped. The real question is, would Lego really give us a mask on what would likely be a bar connection that links to a minifig sized Mata head?
Because if so, holy shit this would be next level
>>
>>11693933
>Other than some dragon
Other than THE MAIN FUCKING APPEAL OF THE ANIME I guess you could do something entirely different. That's like wondering what they could make out of Pokemon. The answer is Pokemon.
Also the Dueling Arenas or whatever. I actually have never seen yugioh.
>>
>>
>>11694264
>There's no way that would cover a normal Lego person head the way that's shaped.
I wonder if it's possible that they doubled down on the cosplayer thing and made it so that it's mostly front facing, and the back is bare. That could explain why we see an almost triangular taper towards the top where it doesnt seem likely it would fit on a minifigure's head. If this is the case then maybe a grayish blank head might be another option.
I tried a few image analyses and each time it said no tampering was found. I'm really curious about this one, so hopefully more comes out soon. Also curious about what makes this version of Lloyd special enough to be in a CMF.

I happened to be walking today and found about a 15 ft stretch of lego pieces on the side of the road. Really bizarre I figure they fell out of the back of a garbage truck or something.
Picked through dirt for a minute to see if there was anything worth salvaging but they're completely mangled. Mostly different colors too couldn't discern any kind of theme from what I found.
Makes me wonder about who they belonged to. Is there a kid out there who feels too grown up for his childhood toys? Are they from a day care that had to filter out shitty chewed up bricks for a fresh batch? I'll never know. Kind makes you think about life to find something like this.

we want good sets, and fan-based contest submissions are much more likely to produce such sets.
but... it is also a complete abuse of the fans, who are in no way properly compensated for their efforts. for every one person who is like "wait a minute, I get 10 free sets, and Lego makes 30 million dollars off of my idea? um, is that fair??" there's a thousand fans tripping over themselves submitting models for "oh-em-gee!! they get 1% of sales, which I guarantee you is a lot more money than you'd make trying to sell your own MOC instructions and taking 100% of the profits (until some Chinese brickbrand steals your idea anyway). Its 1% of a series that since the Ideas rebrand has had like 3 sets for less than $60 USD.
I just don't look at sets like Dungeons and think 'yeah they phoned it in and this is terrible', if anything the colluding with so many people on the project made it even more full of different representations of D&D figures and concepts. its one set where if they never revisit the IP again I'm at least glad it was done with that level of care. not like the Deku Tree or something that was cooked up by the in house team, who apparently did their homework, and delivered something that lackluster on both reference games somehow.

Um... now, and always?
D&D is a game based on you creating your own characters and taking them on adventures. you've always had the power to do that with any Lego set; past, present, and in the future.
I suppose the Magic: The Gathering sets will sort-of count as D&D, since Hasbro owns both of those things, assuming Lego does MTG sets between now and whenever the YuGiOh contest is over
if you're talking about existing D&D characters and locations from books and stuff like Drizzt or Venger from the 80s cartoon, then.... never. Lego did one set for the anniversary, and they're done. Lego is too busy to worry about making tons of sets for "themes" anymore. you got a D&D set. that's all! they have to make a Yu-Gi-Oh set, and something else next...

If you're attached to a specific set, just buy 2.
I sometimes buy doubles when I get my nephews a set and mirror-build one while they follow the instructions for the set, then they get twice as many parts for their collection.
You can mirror build.most Lego sets, as long as the set comes with the left and right handed versions of asymmetrical parts.
The cheapest way to source parts is the Pick a Brick wall. I cant tell you how many times I've stood there and thought, "but will I ever really need X many of this or that part?" IGNORE that thought and just get it.
Of course theres Stud.io too if you want to digitally plan a build then order the exact parts you need through BrickLink, but I spend all day staring at AutoCAD so I'd rather build by hand than digital modeling.
I haven't gotten lucky with Lego off Facebook marketplace but some Frens on here have found killer deals on bins of bricks there.

All sets use the parts and building techniques over and over.
>oh look it's rocks and dark grey as a base
>generic tan pieces and those ugly door arcs
>big grey plates with cheese slopes
>grated windows
>throw in two half assed figures and the loot box tiles
Buying just a big bag of generic tan pieces is cheaper and would get you an actual building that's falling apart on 3 of 4 sides.

Wow, sorry the build didn’t go well for you anon. I think I see the problem though. All your wheels are steering in the same direction. I believe that the front wheels should turn in the opposite direction of the rear wheels while the chassis pivots on the center wheels. You may have installed some of the gears wrong or it could be a mistake in the instructions. Perhaps it’s best to give yourself a break but don’t give up on the project. My picture shows a simpler build of mine that I use to demonstrate how all wheel steering works.

Maybe the gears are too tight. I have found that leaving a bit of slop in the gears while re enforcing the chassis to eliminate flex helps sometimes. Also closely examine all gears for possible flaws in the molding process.

I feel like Lego thinks Minifigures are "too kiddy" which is why most themes aimed specifically at kids Ninjago, Dreamzzz, even some licensed themes like Sonic, Animal Crossing and Fortnite have collectable minifigures.
Lego fell too hard for the normie crowd that doesn't play with their sets, doesn't collect minifigures and treats sets like jigsaw puzzles to never be touched.

I wonder if Lego knows if the presence or absence of Minifigs in the $300+ sets affects the sales. for example, if the $200 Pikachu set came with a minifig Ash and tiny molded Pikachu, would YOU spend two hundred dollaradoos to get it? OR would you NOT buy it now, that it has the silly kid figure in it? Does Lego think if it did come with the figure, it looks like they are trying to cruelly sell children crazy-expensive sets?
>>11695633
>is there a way to fix things?
I'm afraid not.
Lego is firmly in the grips of sales data.
Lego CAN make $650 Pokemon sets without minifigs, and make 50 million dollars. easily. I can't/won't buy it. YOU might not do it either. but gazillions of other people will. happily.
it will take several years and several sets to flop, over and over again, before the expensive sets trend backs off, and right now that seems impossible

where do you even go to look up "the rules"?
I know the number in the bottom corner is:
posts/images/(okay I don't know what this 3rd one is lol)
I know that after like, 150 images, it says you hit the limit, and can't post more images. so that's the number I know to look for, when the new thread should start. is there something else I don't know about?
>>
>>11699688
There used to be an IP counter before page, page means what place on the catalog the thread is on, they should bring that back. Threads become unbumpable here after 14 days because of one argentinan manchild
>>
>>11699688
It’s more common courtesy not to clog up the Catalog. Getting this thread past bump limit gets it out of the catalog faster and clears space for other threads. For generals, you are required to wait until bump limit to make a follow up thread. This is site wide. For slow boards like /toy/, there is no reason to make a new thread right at bump limit. Because you have days or sometimes weeks in the catalog after bump limit. Clogging up the catalog is spam. Which is against the rules. Even though the spam is slow it doesn’t matter, if it outpaces the whole board the effect is the same. There is an unwritten rule though that image limit is a good enough reason to make new thread. Which I agree with. This is an imageboard, at image limit a thread is toast.

Official reveal
$100
March 1st release, I think this is how Lego should have handled Star Trek, a collection of ships with 2 minifigs each, then some deck display sets with more minifigs and maybe some minifig scale sets based on some iconic episodes or smaller scale ships like the gwp.

this is a "good size" for a Lego set sci-fi display piece.
the $400 enormous Enterprise-D is not impressive because the larger you get, the easier it is to do whatever you want (and Lego even "cheated" by creating NEW curved pieces!)
something like the Millennium Falcon HAS to be "BIG" so you can fit the Minifigures inside it. can you fit minifigs inside that Enterprise-D? No?

That's crazy, I always thought he was Yugi's monster, now learning what Yugi's monsters actually are, they are pretty lame, like all the good stuff is on the bad guy side, I'm very curious what Lego will choose, the dark magicians are too...sexy

Dark Magician Girl can probably be minifig'd harmlessly enough with the right amount of censor-able chest coverings in the print and minimal light nougat on the legs, but it would be funny to see somebody make a 2000 piece statute with full rounded chest and wow-LEGS! and Lego is like "that's what fans voted for!" and they have to back-pedal the whole contest format and admit they won't make it after all
but really, most people hear "Yu-Gi-Oh" and think about some-dragon or this sexy Magic Girl. what did Lego expect?
>>
>>11699934
>Imagine if the first Star Trek set was pic related with a Picard minifig, would fans be happy?
yeah Lego can be equally frustrating in any size.
$70? Just Picard and Data? (they might make it 2 figs?) two minifigs for $70?
but... to be perfectly honest.... $70? yeah. I probably would have bought it. slight grumble at $70 price... and I would have been grateful it was Picard AND Data instead of just-Picard.

I laugh that card game Yu-Gi-Oh gets Lego before the original Magic: The Gathering. even though technically it's for the anime... of the card game.
(I don't count Pokemon for the card game, and there have also been good TCGs for both Star Wars and Star Trek, too. which all have Lego sets)
it's not like Lego's hasn't stepped-over more-worthy comparable-things before. Sonic is still winning over Mario, and it's not even close

I wonder if those sets come with extra bricks to plug up the [Smart Brick] holes and levers and junk. they should.

Lego would never give people instructions on how to build it without the smart features cause then you might not buy the other sets to get a smart brick.
I'm sure fans will figure it out pretty quickly though, the sets don't look that complicated.
It is pretty crazy that it's the 2nd most expensive set even though it doesn't have the smart brick, I guess the NFC chips in the 4 smart figures and 4 tags must drive up the price.

>I guess the NFC chips in the 4 smart figures and 4 tags must drive up the price.
Nintendo sells Amiibo cards in packs of 6 for $6.
that's $1 each card, with a chip in it
I get the point about "encouraging" you to buy the other [smart brick] set to fill the gaps, but it seems lame for Lego to say "not required" and give you a set full of holes and useless levers
>>
>>11700186
Oh yeah basic nfc chips are so cheap they can just give them away on free bank cards, but lego might not be using bog standard nfc chips. Normal chips just have to store a few strings of data but some people seem to think that the smart tags/figures actually store the sounds and actions so they would need more memory.

People complain about the price, but it'll still sell. TLC is making crazy profits, they're selling by the pallet, with little competition, and without putting much effort into the design (they've been lazy lately). Ads for LEGO flowers for Valentine's Day are currently running at bus stops... it's working, they control everything, they can set whatever price they want.
I have more and more close friends who were not into LEGO but who have LEGO models on display at home (lifestyle products), and who are proud to show me their items at home.
The time for the somewhat unusual hobby is over, TLC understood this and is taking advantage of it to siphon off the money.
$110 for something that visually looks like it's worth $60, being generous...
That suits me fine, there are fewer and fewer sets that interest me, I'm not interested in display items, I spend less and less and continue to enjoy making my own constructions.

The number of people I‘ve seen online who seemingly have no clue how a contest works is depressing.... They just read the headline „LEGO Yu-Gi-Oh“ and comment nonsense like „hurr durr, $600 Blue Eyes White Dragon, no minifigs“.
I know A LOT of people only read headlines and draw all their conclusions from that alone, but come on, this is ridiculous!
A minifig series might be in the cards (pun wholeheartedly intended), but there has been exactly ONE contest like this before, which is not enough to establish a pattern

One thing I’ve learned about this hobby is you can’t go chasing waterfalls. If you try to obsess over sets and themes and Lego doing it perfect one day you’ll take a look in the mirror and you won’t even recognize your own face. Your health will be fading and you won’t know why and three letters will take you to your final resting place.

>>
>>11700846
I mean, it's a posibillity. But I think it depends on the set they choose too. From what we know the dnd cmf was planned in advance because lego wanted a display set out of the contest to go with the cmf, dragons keep was always going to win the moment it was chosen.

>I’m genuinely shocked by the number of people who think we must be getting a YuGiOh CMF because the prior contest also had an attendant CMF series.
technically we did not get a D&D CMF. those figures should have been in the $360 set, but were pulled out to squeeze and extra $60 from unsuspecting fans. there was a side-benefit for poor fans, at least it enabled them to buy a couple of figures for $5 each. so it wound up as an odd mix of greedy/generous. (even though we should have gotten 12 -MORE- D&D characters, ultimately for a real CMF series)
I have never watched any of Yu-Gi-Oh, but even with only the most basic/normie knowledge of the property, there's not 12 "iconic" characters they could DO for a CMF. who are all these people? the Spider-Mans might have been similar who-dats, but at least they were all Spider-Mans

I think a Yugioh cmf could benefit from having like 3 or 4 humans and the rest to be the more humanoid monsters. The Shrek cmf will have Gingy and Dragon as minifigs so why not make minifig sized monsters? There are a lot that could work as minifigs
>>
>>11700860
0.033 (repeating of course)% chance of a yugioh cmf line.
The DnD CMF worked because it had enough general appeal to excite those who know nothing about DnD. You don’t need to have picked up a roleplaying manual to understand the charm of a hobbit druid or dragon knight or whatever else. And while there were a small minority of highly specific characters (lady of pain and mindflayer), the large majority of the set were general avatars that work almost like mini fantasy parts packs. Even named characters like Strahd or Tasha work fine as stock vampires or witches.
A yugioh CMF would be exactly the opposite: 12 specific named characters, only two of which might stand a chance of being be recognized by ordinary people. Hell, I grew up watching yugioh and playing the card game, and I struggle to name enough characters to fill out a CMF line.
>>
>>11700875
I guess this could work. If you get like a duelling arena as the set and a bunch of additional monsters to fill it out via CMF. Would be kind of cool, still seems incredibly improbable. How many well-loved humanoid monsters are there in the first couple seasons of Yugioh?

Again, you could fill it with monsters. Look at Shrek cmf, it has non humanoids as minifigs like Dragon and Puss in Boots and they won't be in scale with the other minifigs so why not? Exodia minifig would go hard
