B5 IS BETTER IN EVERY WAY.
Where are the flashforwards that hint or actually show you things that will happen multiple seasons later in d9?

Are you just watching the new stuff out if brand loyalty or are you just that bored? Do you pay for Paramount+? That is so strange to me. The only streaming I pay for is YouTube Premium and I paid for HBO for like six months.

>>
>>217653527
I think it's cute, I don't have much time for television with season long arcs and it's nice to throw on an hour long contained show. overall I think it's better than imdb's 4/10 but not by much.

To answer your question, I watch it on a watch-free-movies.tv website, paramount+ is not available in my country and I wouldn't pay for any streaming service
>>
>>217653583
Same. I find it relaxing to switch off and just watch an hour of TV after that doesn’t require intense concentration. Shartfleet Academy is a perfect show for that.

I pay for paramount plus because it’s cheap for me and I’m too lazy to download stuff.
>>
>people watching Academy are honest to god normies

Compared to what? Is it good compared to TNG or good compared to Discovery? I am never going to watch any of these new shows, but I am still curious why other people do.

I doubt it. The only show after Enterprise I've enjoyed somewhat is Lower Decks. Discovery was just horrible and Strange New Worlds is heading in that direction very quickly.

>>
>>217653685
It feels more TNG than Discovery right now because it’s a story of the week with characters taking the spotlight as opposed to an ongoing story arch right like Discovery. Not as good as TNG obviously but it is still very early in the show. TNG s1 was ass for comparison and became better overtime. I don’t think SA will continue past a s3 however.
>>
>>217653685
nta, but the stories might not be too bad. I mostly find the screenplay, visuals and characterization attrocious. Which is enough for me to not watch. But other people might not be appalled by it.

>>
>>217653898
You don't even watch the show.
>>
>>217653765
Feels like a victim of the short season lengths, if you do five gimmick episodes in a 20 episode season they don't feel out of place. In a 10 episode season it feels like your season has no substance in between the season opener and finale. S3 got this bad because the season opener was basically S2 episode 11 rather than a real opening of a new season, so you really only had *9* episodes to work with.

Plus SNW has managed to have some bad luck production wise. Mount was unavailable for a chunk of season 2 which made it feel a little uneven, season 3 production got it's schedule shitted up by strikes.
Like I get them wanting to flex and do 'special' episodes, but the balance is just off. I would like to actually visit a strange new world more than once or twice a season.
>>
>>217653807
They grew up on Joss Whedon but forgot to balance the quips with sincerity. Every show is like that now. Oops All Quips!

Reminder Gatekeeping is good.
Reminder you should be mean to NuTrek fans and Tourists.
Reminder that Gatekeeping kept Trek and it's fandom alive and good quality for 30 years.
Reminder that having standards makes you better than NuTrek consooomers.
Reminder that the most successful entertainment (sport) is heavily based around fandom tribalism and gatekeeping.
If you are against gatekeeping, you are against quality and good taste and are a threat to any scene.

Holy shit Kurtzman just can't stop utterly destroying core alpha quadrant races

first it was STD Klingons, then Romulans, and now he's back at the Klingons again. First of all, aside from the pretty racist portrayal of making them a bunch of retards in hunter/gatherer camps like they're primordial humans, he's made it canon that they've lost their homeworld and are basically on the edge of extinction -- thanks Kurtzman!

also I laughed when they made the Doctor curse, tried to force a gay kiss, and the woman yelled QAPLA out of context, the writers clearly having no idea what it means or how it's used

And apparently this is the GOOD episode of SA that got all of the critical praise
>>
>>217655382
Vast majority of the DS9 don't dislike each other, it's just that it was much more of a situation where they came in, did their job then went home, it wasn't a lifetime gig for them the way it is for a lot of other Trek people
The only one who is really on the outs with others is Marc Alaimo because he's a weird creeper

Casey, you mentioned playing a drunk. Firstly, what was it like drinking all that syrup? And more importantly, how did you approach playing a drunk on Star Trek, which is a bit unusual for the show.

Jeffrey Combs: Let me answer that. First of all, it is called “typecasting.” And second of all, he loved that shit.

Casey Biggs: Oh yeah, you aren’t even a good enough actor to drink that and pretend you like it. [both laugh] That’s why I am a better actor, I looked like I liked it, but it was terrible! I hated it. Like I said, I had one scene in Quark’s bar and say, “Give me the kanar…no no, the good stuff.” And then I got into a fight with Quark, and they liked that chemistry with me and Quark and all that. And literally, almost every flipping scene I was in after that, I was drinking that shit. Until—and René directed that episode as well—when I stopped. Remember Jeff, you were in that scene.

Jeffrey Combs: I do. I was there to tell you that your wife and your son had been killed.

Casey Biggs: And the funny part was before that episode I didn’t even know I had a wife or son.

Jeffrey Combs: [laughs] Exactly! They do sort of pull those things on you. As an actor you go, “Wait, I have a daughter!” You would have played it.

Casey Biggs: I could have played scenes differently.

Jeffrey Combs: The point is, they didn’t know that.

they seem like friends

Actually believe it or not Filoni is a great example of what I mean—but the other important piece of the puzzle is needing a grand tard wrangler to keep everyone in check and to have the final say. You can’t just make your autist the head of everything and give him the power of the final say!

Rick Berman always fancied himself way more creative than he really was, especially for feature length films and not silly little one-off television episodes in 4:3 meant for casual entertainment. Also letting patrick stewart dictate a laundry list of demands instead of telling him to shut up and just say his lines
>>
>>217656240
DS9VOY/ENT all struggled with ratings, taking seasons to even find their footing. Paramount probably didn't want to risk it when (up until Nemesis) TNG movies were still making money
>>
>>217656240
Only TOS and TNG had mass appeal for normies. DS9 and VOY weren't nearly popular enough to get movies.
>>
>>217654992
>i understand why the 40k fags are trying to gatekeep so hard.
40k went to shit a long time ago once the fandom got overrun with edgy zoomers who have never played the tabletop game, read any of the books, or played the video games at the very least, and who only like it cause they saw a tiktok edit. Plus, the 40k lore has been in the shitter for over a decade at this point.
>>
>>217656282
Which sucks because out of all of the Star Trek shows DS9 would have lent itself best to a big budget film.
>>
The Center Seat documentary is getting a seconds season

>The 2021 series had episodes dedicated to each of the five classic shows (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise) as well as episodes focusing on the TOS movies, The Animated Series, and even a couple of special episodes: one on guest stars and one all about starships. But there were some big things not covered, notably the TNG movies, the Kelvin era movies, and the modern streaming era TV shows. There are indications that Nacelle is now covering the TNG movies and likely the Kelvin movies

Zoomers live at home and by and large have given up any dreams of starting a family, building a career, or owning a home. It’s dire for them. Plus they probably just pirate shit or watch whatever streaming services their parents pay for.
The last of the spending money is left with millennials and old boomers. You as a viewer are always going to develop a sort of parasocial relationships with characters you grow to love from a given series; and I suppose it is natural to “ship” characters eventually and hope to see a romance blossom as much as you want to see friendships develop. But the problem with Star Trek is that everyone are co-workers and should be serving in a scientific/military (i.e. professional) capacity. I get that this is the natural end to a long-running episodic series. But don’t dip your pen in company ink, as they say.
>>
>>217657388

>>
>>217657427
I don't think your post is nonsensical, generally speaking, and military/paramilitary organizations which are not mono-gendered take a dim view of fraternization. Typically, there are rules against it even.

But Kira and Odo? Well, Kira is part of a defunct backwards provisional government and Odo is basically just a local sheriff working, technically, as part of the Bajoran militia.
Neither are Starfleet and given how fucked Bajor is, I doubt they have much in the way of rules against it.

But even TOS shows crewmembers fraternizing. Kirk marries two crewmen in Balance of Terror, remember, so it's probably allowed with special dispensation -- meaning you have to let a senior officer know what is going on.
>>
>>217657584
Good points, very good points
>>
>>217657584
the nonsensical part is how he somehow makes it the viewer's fault that they "ship" characters that show is showing you have an actual romantic relationship and it's therefore not parasocial and not "shipping" it's literally just watching the show.
>>
>>217656474
HEGH'BATTY BOY
>>
>>217657619
Yeah I guess you're right, my brain automatically filters buzzwords like 'parasocial' so I just skimmed right over that part
>>
>>217657619
It’s both. Lots of times yes its the writers adding things like a Riker/Troi romance or whatever, but other times its viewers generating hype and then the writers being swayed to satisfy the buzz of the fan base

Such as? I can't think of that ever happening in Trek, the writers kowtowing to fan demands

for example if anything the fans wanted archer/t'pol because ENT flirted with the idea a lot early on but the writers said fuck you and put her with trip
>>
That one where Janeway tries to forge an alliance with the Kazon but they were too niggerish to be reasonable

The dynamic between Odo and Bashir in Dramatis Personae is literally /pol/. Julian is the paranoid chud who thinks his country is a powder keg that's ready to blow and is frothing at the mouth for it, and Odo is the outside lurker who's just bewildered.

>>217657729
And the Trabe, who used to own the Kazon, were too Jewish to be trustworthy, either.

i didn't start this conversation you guys wanted to talk about gay aliens in nutrek and how TV producers finally figured out that women are the best demographic to make stuff for
>>
>>217658516
Part of the problem is that back in the 90s trekkies were mainly basement dwelling and any sexual activity was band kids who were freaky, but since then HRT and troon propaganda has propagated like wildfire so the demographic shift of nerd culture and what Star Trek feels the need to cater to now is LGBT nonbinary hyper-fetishized weirdos.
>>
>>217658591
it's not catering to lgbt fetish weirdos. fujo stuff is enjoyed by heterosexual normie women. even older ones with lots of disposable income. realizing this is the key to making money. girl pro wrestling fans ship WWE wrestlers and they get harassed by incels online. pro wrestling fans also ship NJPW wrestlers and what that company does is release gay thirst trap photobooks of those wrestlers and make a shit zillion dollars.

I find it funny that no one in nu-trek writing room has no fucking idea how military or its service academies are organized. War college doesn't have fucking cadets. It is institution that trains company grade officers to field grade officers and field grade officers to fucking flag officers. Students in war college are lt commanders, commanders and captains. In some cases flag officers that somehow managed to pick up flag rank after skating general staff officer course.

Its fairly clear that Garak adopted the flamboyant mannerisms as part of his "simple tailor" persona. While that is the sorta of default persona we see on the show, there were a number of times on the show where he dropped it. It is stongly implied that as an operative Garak was very terrifying so since he is a "simple tailor" he over compensates by trying to be as non-threatening as possible. Notably, he also was very into Dukat's daughter.

>One of the cool things about Klingons was that while they were deep in warrior culture, they also had lawyers and doctors and scientists too.

I feel like a Klingon doctor could work as a character. You could adapt their warrior code to medicine, such as keeping warriors alive and fit to die in battle another day. Same way the Ferengi are shown to be good diplomats and shrewd tacticians when they are put in life or death situations.
