We need more ALIEN diversity on ships if Federation really has over 150 members.
Night Elves and Dwarves are founding nations of the Federation, (along with Men and High Elves), and deserve more representation. Caitians are cool too, and deserve more representation just for being cat-people.
Lastly what come to mind are Bynars (modern day Hobbits); they are quite interesting and unique aliens and should be more prevalent.
What other aliens deserve more representation?

>>
>>217663987
NuTrek writers put zero thoughts into the implication of their worldbuilding. They see a traditionally masculine race in Klingons, a race that men cheer for, and made them gay. The Fem’Hadar is also half Klingon and in a lesbian relationship.

Alex Kurtzman's friends and a bunch of diversity hires to keep the people upstairs happy.

They got a decent actor when they had to cast a white male to play Pike and put out an ad that said "older gentleman with a commanding presence needed to play starfleet captain in new Star Trek media" instead of "we need a Nigerian".

>>217664982
They have literal quotas. It's not an "open secret", if your movie or show isn't diverse enough it doesn't get greenlit.

If you're smart enough to convince these people that the mainstream audience wants something then you can get clueless boomers to finance it. Apparently after 5 failed shows and a decade after the term 'woke' started being annoying.

New idea for a Star Trek show:

A renegade Ferengi sentenced to a life of servitude mining coal to power Starship reactors kills his masters by strangling them with his own chains. Born from a hanged corpse, the protagonist is constantly angry and carrying the baggage of his past. Reading is illegal, but he teaches himself chemistry from a book found in a landful, and the protagonist is revealed to be a brilliant chemist capable of synthesizing 99.87% pure dilithium. The dilithium is so pure that it becomes an addictive substance that people inject as an illicit drug that gives their eyes a distinctive blue tint. Living next to a designated encampment for an alien spaceship that arrived one day, the grizzled Ferengi starts manufacturing and selling "neptune", but quickly discovers that likes it and that the thrill is an addiction itself. What follows are the moral dilemmas contentious inner demons of a morally ambiguous man as he builds an underground empire with a Starfleet brother in law who is always hot on his tail but none the wiser.
>>
>>217666313
All of the above, Picard came off as feminine and weak. They also didn't have the chemisty the trio in ToS had.
Early on the episodes had too much female empowerment themes and having some feelings alien doctor which was gay too.

A decade+ ago everything would get a dedicated toyline and now barely anything does outside of a few consistent franchises or video games. Toys are more expensive to produce and buy so maybe the license isn't worth the risk when it would only appeal to a niche collector market.

It's fucking unreal how much better of a design this is.
The term "design" kind of comes bundled with the idea that it was considered. Like it has a reason for looking like that. It's more egregious than Halo 4 where a bunch of utilitarian technology got "upgraded" by having a thousand little pointless details slapped onto it.

Yeah I think you're literally it. Sorry to tell you.

Star Wars has 3 godawful ones one great one and a bunch of okay ones. It actually looks more like Star Trek where there's a whole bunch of slop that outsiders don't really care about and a few bits of brilliance somewhere in there.
>>
>>217667843

>>
Why is TOS TNG & DS9 so fucking good?
>>
>>217667862
Yeah you also have a thousand hours of television though

"Rogue One" was completely immemorable but did a brilliant job of making Star Wars feel more "lived in". No one that wasn't into Star Wars really cared about it but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is where I say that it's like Star Trek. There's good television mixed "somewhere in there" but if you split the difference it just looks like a mediocre television show with a million episodes that aren't that compelling. Trying to explain it is extremely difficult because you have to ask someone to care and then sign up for hours and hours of viewing to understand why.

The thing that sets me apart from Star Trek is that I refuse to put up with the idea that "there's lots of bad" so therefore Alex Kurtzman isn't that remarkable. This guy showed up one day and made all the most disastrously stupid decisions while simultaneously not caring and by some miracle managed to get hired another 4 times. The dinosaur episode of Voyager is a thousand times more intelligent and compelling than anything the 21 producers ever managed to come up with.
>>
>>217667862
And soon we will have 1000 hours of God-awful television, a majority of which explicitly retcons, reverts, and tarnished the good stuff. Meanwhile Wars can shrug its shoulders and keep making three more movies at a time and endless side shows and generate billions of dollars and general fan appreciation
>>
>>217668128
>And soon we will have 1000 hours of God-awful television
No we won't because modern television can't make 20+ episode seasons of hour long dramas anymore

There are more episodes of TOS in 3 seasons than in Game of Thrones in 8 seasons and newer shows have even less than GoT with even more down time between seasons
It will take them a long time to make that much slop.
>>
>>217668128

>>
>>217668147
The problem isn’t literal screen hours bozo, you’re being pedantic. The problem comes when you say
>erm well the last good stuff in my comfort franchise was made in the 1990s
Soon that becomes 40 years ago, then 50, then 60… at a certain point it becomes a little pathetic when you look back and realize you had a brief period of “the good stuff” and then a huge chunk of time since then dedicated to nothing but repeated releases of gay butt sex and liberal besmirchment and condescending, patronizing lectures from hack writers and a studio that wants to dig any and all interest further and further into the ground

He doesn't even rip off well. He is unable even to do that. Read this interview. How smarmy he sounds. He's talking about when he directed The Mummy (2017). He refers to the Exorcist, Eyes Wide Shut and Hitchcock. They were the 'mood' and the 'tone' and the 'texture' he tried to emulate. Like, how wanky is it to list those greats and say that's what you were aiming for. But, also. How retarded is it that that's what you were aiming for. And you made The Mummy. Which is very bad. It's against reddiquette to downvote just because you disagree.

They are correct that 'being horny is space' is the right direction for the franchise though. Back to its roots. But, aiming to make a show shallow and simple is dumb. Try to make it good instead. And to say it has to be shallow and simple, because the target audience is 20-year-old kids. That's dumb. Late-teens/early-twenties, they can discern and appreciate quality. You don't have to talk down to them like they're retards.

picard was the best representation of a navy officer. a stuck up glorified bureaucrat with a condescending attitude that indulges in blatant favoritism and much more keen on mingling on diplomatic missions rather than focus on space exploration of border defense. the perfect herald of a holier-than-thou nanny state like the federation and very akin to many real life navies today.
sure, there were times when picard tried to play ninja against the cardassians or wanted to larp as dora the explorer only to get clapped by the borg, but to be frank it feels too out of character for him, he's just too good at playing the part of the detatched top brass officer, more clerk than soldier.
what's ironic is that patrick stewart wanted to make him an action hero, lmao. imagine a bald midget that looked 20 years older than he was, pretending to be the space van damme. it would've been more cringe than shatner wrestling aliens while becoming increasingly fat and out of shape.

canon gorns are such a clusterfuck. i spent years forging my own headcanon and history about them in order to cope with the sheer mental abuse that 40 years of retconning cause me. suffice to say, i frankly prefer the star trek online version of them. they look lizardy, they look big and imposing and predatory, and they look sufficiently intelligent and technologically advanced to be a space faring civilization. they're not xenomorph knockoffs, they're not bestial mooks, and they're not obvious men in a rubber suit.

Do you ever buy some clothes, and think they look cool in the shop. But when you go to wear them you get a 'lil embarrassed? Like, is it too trendy. Too dressy. Can you pull the outfit off? And you have to psych yourself up a bit. For the self-confidence. And hope nobody else thinks your outfit is weird and teases you when you go out. Do you think Picard did that in his quarters before the first shift when he debuted that jacket? How did he even get that jacket? Did Starfleet send out a subspace memo. Saying 'uniforn regulations update - all captains can now wear this cool jacket is they want. Click here to download the replicator pattern'. Or did Picard design it himself. Knowing that it nobody can stop him from wearing whatever he wants. It's his ship. He's not Ro getting chewed out by Riker for wearing an earring.
>>
>>217673461
It was around this time of me watching TNG and starting to get into DS9 that I kinda just realized Starfleet has no fucking unified dress code and it just seems like people wear whatever is assigned to them

Is there a TOS watch along guide? Does the acting in this show get better? I feel like this is closer to Adam West Batman than TNG where everything is camp and the characters are kinda one dimensional. I watched TOS in maybe the worst way. I didn't know if I'd like it, so I found a list of all the 'sodes ranked. And started watching from highest ranked down. And it was great at first. Because they are the best ones. And then they started getting just good. Then mediocre. And I still haven't watched like a quarter of TOS. Because they started getting bad and I knew it was only going to keep getting worse. I should've just watched in order. Because if there's an occasional bad one, the next one will probably be better.

TOS is just as good as Enterprise. Maybe better because ENT has better acting.

TOS is an amazing show with a lot of great stuff going on for it, it was the first of its kind to explore concepts that is commonplace in prestige TV today, but in my opinion the show isnt timeless. TOS feels extremely dated in my opinion. It is a product of its time.

>>
>>217674927
The Cage should be first.
>>
>>217675079
I meant to say maybe worse. ENT is better than TOS because ENT has better acting. I am still waking up blah.

Combs can act circles around most of the TOS cast.

TOS isn't bad, and laid the foundation for later series to improve upon. They looked at Spock, asked how can we do this in a different way, and made Data in TNG.

>>
>>217675093
I am currently watching Homicide: Life on the Street. And the order they have it on streaming is not production order. They have it the same as the original network airing order. But, the network played it out of order. Which is actually very annoying because there are overarching narratives throughout. That are now all fucked up. Like there's this one cop who gets shot in the head and permanently disabled. Who then shows up a couple episodes later OK. Because it is out of order. And another where a detective is matter-of-factly talking about how his partner died. And it's like two episodes later when he actually dies. I have to go and check the proper each episode before watching now.

Him and Kurtzman have a lot in common. They agree with each other far more than they disagree. Because they have so much in common. And BIPOC and LGBTQI+ representation won't hurt their goals. No it's not. It's an overt expression of the fact that Shinji is a little bitch. He's had the girl living with him for months, seen her naked, had her hit on him, could have had her basically any time, but the only time he can go for it is when she's comatose and completely unable to respond to him. Shinji's whole character is that he's a complete coward.
