gonna be pissed if they do some copout bullshit of having lillard & co just be in flashbacks and not be alive in real time
also want it to be the last scream movie, the original plan between williamson & craven was to do 7 movies anyway

only if you're a child
as an adult you watch them for the entertainment factors: nudity, special effects, kill counts, dialogue, memes/cameos
you may have done that as a kid as well but you understand and appreciate it more as an adult
personally what i love about the exorcist is that the entire film is debatable as to whether or not the events actually occurred since the mother never witnesses any of it and is in hysterics for the few times she sees anything

Is there anything in the movie/book that implies this though? Otherwise, you could apply this to any movie told from the perspective of a character who believes there's a conspiracy against them, evil overtaking them, etc., like Rosemary's Baby.
>>217748250
I haven't watched any since 4, so I don't even understand what that means.
>>
>>217748495
>Is there anything in the movie/book that implies this though?
never read the book
but for film the protagonist's perspective is the default point of view. 9/10 times this is the case. the only reason we see inside the bedroom is fanservice.
mind you, i'm not suggesting this is the only way to view the film, but it is a way to view it and i think it being there makes the film better all these years later.
but yeah since she's never in the bedroom when shit happens she is left clueless and we can infer that she effectively made up the events that we see play out in her head to justify the oddities of being an actor trying to settle down and raise a sick child in a new area.

Scream 3 should have been: Sydney is framed by the killers for murder, arrested, put on trial, found guilty, sentenced and incarcerated, and only when Dewey catches the entire power structure incl judge in Satanic ritual blood sacrifice does he break Syd out, but then they are fugitives, hunted by the Satanic cabal which controls law enforcement.

Just finished. Bunch of Kansas metalhead teenagers throw together a "vampire" 8mm epic in the early 90s. Kids in Bon Jovi and Hard Rock Cafe shirts blowing each other away with shotguns and exploding spectacularly in the sunlight. Feels like the movie Beavis & Butthead would make if they weren't so retarded. Amazing for what it is, with impressive photography and crazy effects, but I couldn't follow what was going on or who was who for the most part. I'm guessing the director burned himself out doing just this one, because if he'd kept going at this level he'd be a big name today.

It was out out on DVD back in the mid 2000s by Barrel Entertainment, an indie label that only did around 10 releases including the Nekronantik movies. They got involved with the guy who directed Last House on Dead End Street who was a notorious asshole and he ended up putting them out of business. They had reliably good taste so I'm trying to watch the couple titles left that I hadn't seen already.

Kennedy isn't a great actor and nowadays he's drunk 24/7 and just your typical washed up has been but he was really really good for those roles in the mid to late 90s. I don't have any opinions on Jasmin as an actress, she's ok, the character I do hate and what I really really hate is how both she and her brother survive everything. The argument is usually
>but neve, courtney and david survived plenty of attacks in scream 1-4!
yeah, but that was 3 people. in scream 6, courtney, jasmin, mason, jenna, melissa, melissa's bf and hayden all survived. in scream 7, you just KNOW courtney, neve, jasmin, mason, neve's daughter and potentially neve's husband will also survive. every important character will survive, which is bullshit.

Just finished. Had this on dvd for years and years and just never got around to it. The story is extremely simple and the movie goes very slowly in setting it up. Boy meets girl and suspects there's something off about her. I didn't like it very much but wouldn't say it's because it did anything wrong. The main corpse prop is expertly done and I imagine most of the movie's money went into it. Fun fact: Daktari Lorenz, who was the lead in the last movie and is in the opening scene here, is the guy who shot all of Nadine Jansen and Milena Velba's big titty videos.

I'm sorry but I just have to give a response in case you lurk this general.
>>217731987
I agree with some of your points but as always Sturgeon's Law applies to everything. There's lots of garbage sci-fi, lots of garbage fantasy, lots of garbage action but also at least 10% worthwhile stuff. The low barrier of entry as well as how doing horror used to be seen as shameful for movie stars similar to how starring in a TV show was something you only did if your career was just starting out or if it was stalling, both of which is no longer that big of a concern for an actor's image nowadays in a post-prestige TV/post-streaming era, has led to a lot of garbage but it's also given us some really good shit.
What I really want to address though is this part:
>Are slashers categorized as horror? Or thriller? I thought they fall under thrillers but whatever.
Like how is it even possible to think this? I can understand being confused about zombies or vampies I guess but have you ever heard the name "Art the Clown" and the word "thriller" being mentioned in the same sentence? If you're even a little bit into horror as you claim then the names Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Chucky and Ghostface should all be familiar to you because even people who aren't into horror at all are at least vaguely aware those are all horror movie characters and what do they all have in common? They're from slasher franchises.
>>
>>217755941
I try to be a fair guy, I don't blame Melissa for speaking her mind and I don't mind Hollywood Jews for doing whatever the fuck they want with their company, hell I don't even blame Courtney and Neve because they're old and a paycheck is a paycheck, but Jasmin Savoy and Mason Gooding are rats. I do not like backstabbing rats. I will be pirating Scream 7.

Allegories for trauma is the greatest form of art, be they horror or any other genre. Terms like trauma and gaslighting are not used enough. Abuse is ubiquitous.
The three films I've seen which do best with taking on this issue are
Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)
Coma (1978)
Safe (1995)
These films are all three about women. Abuse happens to men just as often as it does to women, but people do not like to acknowledge the abuse of men, and so the arts depict women surviving abuse much more than men. Of course the demographic who are abused most are children. I can't really sit through films that depict child abuse. Thanks for reading my blog.

>>
>>
>>217757624
I've actually never seen Gaslight. I tend to not watch movies from before the 70s. I don't like the midatlantic accent. But you're right, I absolutely should watch it.
I kind of don't like that the term for this kind of psychological manipulation, which is essentially consistently lying, comes from a hollywood movie. The better term for it in my view is "ambient abuse". But I'll take your rec and watch Gaslight.

Psycho (1960) is a 9/10 because it legitimizes psychiatry in the end. If Hitchcock had cut what I imagine was the book author's intellectual masturbation and never explained Norman's character it would have been a 10/10 and spawned 8 sequels at least.

Oh, and the name comes from the play by Patrick Hamilton, because he was the first to make
>do you believe me your husband or your lying eyes and ears?
the major plot point by having the woman see the gas light dim (meaning someone else has turned on a light somewhere on the gas supply to the building) and her husband keeps being like
>Nah the lights are fine
Hamilton's also the one who came up with the stage play for Rope. If you want twisted shit in that kind of vein, highly recommend his books
>>
>>
>>217758157
It's not a remake, it's just they use the same play as the source. The play is sometimes called Angel Street too, but the usual title is Gaslight
>>217758226
No prob, Hamilton was a deeply twisted writer and I want him to get the credit for coming up with the whole idea instead of the people using it now. Hope you enjoy the Bergman one

6 was the first time there was more than two killers at least. That reminds me has anyone ever noticed how Scream 1 and 2 are the only movies where Ghostface makes sounds when he's stabbing or getting injured? That's why in Scream 2 you can actually tell when it'sMrs. Loomisand when it'sMickeydonning the robes most of the time just by the grunts they make like in the theater bathroom when Ghostface whispers in the stalls you can tell it'sa male voiceand whenRandygets stabbed in the van it's anangry female voice. I wish they hadn't stopped doing that.

>an asshole to them
In what sense? I also thought they were very good with their interpretation of two little shits. Little children can be a pain sometimes, they can be very manipulative and most of them are pretty smart in their own ways.
What are some themes from this movie, apart from the, you know, women being insufferable?
Being a husband and a father of a teenage girl and seeing this movie hits harder than I would have expected. A theme could be girl adolescence and how they can be so mean sometimes, and that we as parents need to guide them or they can go and do stupid shit; the burden of the father to be the provider even when you are unable or fail to do so... when he broke down that last night I felt that right in the feels I almost kneel to pray with him. And a last them could be how hard it is sometimes to believe your kids when they misbeahave and how that trust is very fragile.

Hollywood-style adult male victim of child abuse:
>psychosexually violent
>grows up to be monstrous bitter lunatic that terrorizes innocents
>cast as antagonist or villain protagonist at best
>may get a few sympathy points via 2nd-hand narration from a strong female psychologist
>ultimately slain or vanquished, having been conquered by his own demons
Hollywood-style adult female victim of child abuse:
>asexual or avoidant of romantic relationships
>grows up into cute, innocent young woman who is sad and lonely
>cast as the strong survivor heroine
>fights against those who represent or typify her abuser
>wins in the end, becoming stronger and overcoming her childhood abuseSure there are exceptions, but the general rule is there.

Interesting interview with Wan/Whannell. Mainly
>“I killed Jigsaw. I was like, ‘This is pretty definitive.‘ Which [Lionsgate] regrets to this day. If the producers could go back in time, they wouldn’t be killing Hitler, they’d be convincing me not to kill Jigsaw.”
Which is pretty funny, since I get it but I also like that they had to make the series insane to keep it going. Tobin's psychic messages from the grave are entertaining.

We Bury The Dead:
7/10. “humans are le bad” but I genuinely enjoyed it. Found the scene with her husband very funny. The teeth gnashing drove me bonkers though. Could’ve used more zombie screen time but fuck me, right?
The Substance:
7/10. I hope those were Demi Moore’s real nipples. Missed opportunity not using “Satisfaction” for the music when she’s knocking down her bathroom wall. Sufficiently gross for my liking so if you’re into body horror this will do.

I just got back from seeing it. For the first hour, nothing really makes sense or matters at all. You quickly understand that the main character is a criminal attempting to earn his freedom by entering a submarine and performing an (untrained) expedition for the sake of a scientist team representing the last outpost of humanity. It's slow as hell and feels like nothing is actually happening. I was wondering if there were a bunch of easter eggs I was supposed to notice while the time passed, that might offer some entertainment. Not knowing the game, it just seemed like a lot of fucking around, settings things up for longer than a movie ought to. The second half had more action, but it became apparent that this really isn't a horror movie, but more of a psychological drama. The problem, partly the result of it being based on a video game, is that it's not mature enough to be a psychological drama. It's very shallow and comes across like a teenager wrote it. The last ~half-hour has some interesting visuals. Throughout the movie, I kept thinking "at least the DOP is trying his best."
That's probably the main appeal of this, at least if you're like me and haven't played the game. It has some decent visuals. If you see it in the theater or have a nice home theater set-up then you'll enjoy the atmospheric, bass-heavy soundtrack, but otherwise it's just kind of a "vibe" movie without much substance or sense to it. I enjoyed the theater experience (and it helped that tickets were half-price), but if I saw this at home I'd just think it was shit.
>>
>>217769515
Interesting. Wikipedia says it's made $23m from a $3m budget which is pretty impressive. Maybe he'll make a real film next.
Being a director has to be a more interesting life path than a youtube clown for children.
>>
>>217769608
The low budget is very apparent just from the fact that it takes place almost entirely in one small set, the submarine.
> Maybe he'll make a real film next.
>Being a director has to be a more interesting life path than a youtube clown for children.
I hope that he does expand from this. He's not a terrible actor, and he may have a better movie in him to direct if he at least hires a good writer and chooses a better story to work with.

Finally watched I Saw The TV Glow.
Very blunt with the trans theme, but it would resonate with anyone in their 30s who feel like they didn't become the person they wanted to be.
While it had horror scenes, it was very much a drama rather than horror. Surprisingly watchable movie despite my hatred of trannies. Ice cream man was probably the peak, visually.
>>
>>217769901
I feel like if the director hadn't come out publically and said it's about nostalgia, people would just be saying "oh the trannys say that about every film, it's not about being trans".
I guess the concrete idpol things were that the character was a wimpy asexual kid, but is said to end up with a family. Which fair enough that is sus.
To me it was pretty open ended as you said, or at least I have my own imagination about what films are about as they're playing. I mainly liked the soundtrack, to the point where the film is propped up heavily by it.
>>
>>217769964
Having the TV characters be two females instead of a boy and girl who are friends, thus having a scene with Owen walking around in a dress. Everything single thing about Madison too, right down to the actress that played her now being a "they" that goes by the name "Jack".
But yeah, Owen in the beginning seems very asexual and either autistic or schizoid. I guess that was due to the heavy suppression of self that was going on.

Been a while since I saw it but that's a good point. I think I'm a combination of "bad at" and "not interested in" parsing a directors hints when I'm off in my own world of imagination about what a film could be.

My memories of watching them were of Frankenstein being basically perfect, and Bride being good but tonally odd, like the mini women. Maybe I'll have to rewatch but the little girl drowning and the fire spectacle at the end are two things that really retained in my mind.

FYI anon though you may be disappointed that the frequency/amount of traditional horror scenes isn't to your personal tastes the people who are actually into dramas are very much not the target audience for movies like Iron Lung and I Saw the TV Glow. People who go to see Hamnet or Marty Supreme will not also go to see Iron Lung if they want more drama. Just like you don't watch shows like 24 because it's mostly a drama you watch it because it's also an action thriller.
>>
>>
>>217749842less AI more deepfake I guess. An early early cut had a bit at the end of the film where someone was watching the news cover the aftermath on a laptop before shutting the lid. You dont see the face, but it's implied to be the real Stu. That was cut as of the last screener I saw, but again that was last year

I think Scream should have an actual reboot. You just can't keep adding heroes while recycling motivations and having literal whos as the killers. Either go balls to the wall and kill Sidney in the opening scene and make Gale the killer or something or start over. Slashers aren't really as popular right now the whole meta aspect doesn't work like it did in 96.

>the trans theme
I don't think they meant to make it trans themedthey might have but then the theme leads to two conclusions, delusional suicide or quiet repressed waiting for death, and I don't think they wanted to play into that regarding trans
It's peak millennial nostalgia bait existential crisis, and I think the horror of it comes mostly from the combination of nostalgia and regret for that generation.
I think if you read it as trans themed, it's kind of a shallower movie and pretty anti transition, but if you read it as a retrospective of the me generation, the existential horror becomes broader and deeper. It's actually a really smart move because a lot of trans haters will watch it and have their bias about trannies validated, while the kind of millennial who watches a not-quite-Smashing-Pumpkins-so-we-don't-pay-Billy-Corgan themed existential horror about remaining in suburbia has an out the movie is not about how being raised to be anything they wanted or could fantasize might have ended up in an entry level job with no prospects or half baked escape plans that prove to be even less productive for that generation

As far as final girls go, probably Trish, then chick from FvJ, then chick from
Manhattan, and I don’t really have a preference after that. I would have the chick from 5 in there too, but her voice is too annoying.
As far as side girls go, Terry from 2, then the chick from ‘09 with the best titties I’ve ever seen this side of Sydney Sweeny, and the rest just kind of blend together in my head.

I recently did an edit where I cut the uncensored version of FvJ with the Last Drive-In segments from AMC Fearfest last October, and in that process I became quite smitten with Lori. Something about her constant doe-eyed expression.

I don't know what to watch, I tried "a place in the kinki region" but it was kinki (2014) instead, then red rooms but I only found it in french.
I don't have a particular taste in any type of horror movies, some of my favourites being hellraiser, braindead or noroi.
I recently watched "Man finds tape" and it was just ok I guess, I did like better other mockumentaries like Strange Harvest, Hell House or The Bay and other found footage like as above so below and borderlands.
I'm also not a huge fan of movies like caveat, oddity, weapons or barbarian. Although I wouldnt say I dislike them. A movie has to be really trashy for me to dislike it cause I always end up apreciating the effort behind.

Saw the Hills Have Eyes 2 remake for the second time since the first time I saw it when it was released ago.
The movie was made very well. Obviously it has aged very well since release. During its release, I obviously compared it to the first remake which was pretty much impossible to surpass. However, watching the sequel now has let me view it again in a new light. The movie was awesome. Intense. And full of spirit. Watch it.

Cure, Kairo and Lake Mungo are amazing if you dont mind slow movies
the wailing is the best of the bunch probably
exorcist, possession and funny games are classics
borderlands and gonjam are good if you dont mind found footages (the latter is more "balls to the walls" high-ish budget movie)
martyrs is pretty good and pseudo philosophical which i dont mind
terrified is probably the scariest with lake mungo
under the skin is a piece of shit overrated movie

>X (2022)
Saw this one recently. It's just the director's barely disguised fetish presented as a horror movie. No wonder this shitty board liked it. It has blacked.com and cuckolding in it, their favorite things.
>>
>>217779598
>No wonder this shitty board liked it
I loved the cinematography and the sleazy porn production vibe personally, but I think it got kinda boring/generic when the kills started.
I think you can't see the wood for the trees if LE BLACK COCK is your biggest impression from the film. It's not even very explicit in that sense, it's just what you chose to focus on.

>The cuckolding and bbc was a main theme of the movie
No, neither of those things were "themes" and there were 0 references to BBC other than a character being black, and perceived cuckolding was a plot device. You chose to get hung up on it, instead on the cool croc, or the weird killer geriatrics.
>>217779726
You out yourself when you come to a HORROR thread and the biggest horror you can express is about black cock (not even shown!). You can deal with people getting dismembered, seduced by the devil and raped, but you can't deal with your own feeling of sexual inferiority.
It's genuinely sad. Professional victim 2014 tumblr mentality but co-opted by cuckcels.
