I'll post my query in this thread instead. What are some must-watch Chinese Kinoes of the last, say, ten years? I really enjoyed An elephant sitting still, same with Black dog (2024) and Bi Gan's output. Taiwan and Hong Kong do apply.

I go to Palace Cinemas, have a movie club premium card, often go alone (tho' I go with friends reasonably often) and tend to just get a drink instead of food if I get anything (beer instead of wine) like the guy that hates movies but I don't write Letterboxd reviews and I love movies.

I probably don't get enough out of it to justify having it over the free tier desu even if it is ultimately pretty cheap (I don't pay enough attention to special offers and events and the like, so I'm surely missing out on at least something decent). The discount for myself and an extra guest has been nice occasionally I guess (tho' they could of course just join the free tier and get a discount themselves) tho' the friend I go with most often also has a premium card.

It's a decent but not amazing movie where a theatre star slowly spirals into insanity as the lines between character and self blur. The performance of Othello is the real treat.

For me Frank on the version of Chunga's Revenge where Dweezil is playing with him. Dweezil sounds young and eager to impress the audience. Frank steps in with a mature refined tone and style. His Performance Strat in '88 had a unique tone that I love.

watched this with a chick recently. it was pretty mediocre. I guess it kinda came together near the ending, but otherwise, it really reeks of the arthouse wannabe female director/scriptwriter. The acting was mediocre too, and some plot points were unresolved (like the hole in the forest, whatever was up with that).

How can I find collaborators to make films?

I live in London so it should be easy enough but I literally have no friends and suck at meeting people. I just want to make low budget neo-realist/new wave type films, so I don't even need much, I just don't know how to find the right people.

Epic American anthem.

Big cinematic canvas.

Vast.

And you get what? You get a portrait of the country that hits the target at exactly the right moment.

It’s a picture that has so much in it, it contains so much that it can’t be narrowed down to one genre, or one catchphrase, or one element.

Like all great films, it can’t be compared to anything else because it stands alone.

It’s a great American film.

Why don't you hang out at theatre rehearsals and talk with theatre actors, especially amateurs. Because you don't really need/want seasoned actors, you could just hang out in any artistic mileau and meet people that potentially would want to be in a new wave-ish film. Just my 2 cents.
