Who is /fat/ for?
For prodigious penguins who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/
>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).
>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html
>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Successfully completed couch to 5k with my weight being in the upper 230s. Wondering why I'm not improving any more, or losing any weight. Early Jan I weighed myself and I was 240lbs. Since then I started tracking my calories and eating at a 1000 daily deficit. So far I'm 225lbs, running has gotten easier. My ultimate goal would be to get down to 160lbs.

Got married, got off birth control, got out of parent house, got stressful low paying job, no focus on self or self control, no desire to learn better cooking and meal prep, no desire to improve self, always though I’d off myself early enough not to see consequences.
Had kid.
Changed priorities.
Wanted to live longer to see kid grow up.
Decided kid will grow into me if I don’t change.
Got better job, more money. Learning cooking. Learning meal prep. Learning having habits. Learning it’s ok to rely on others and ask for help.
Life is improving.

was alwsys fat, lost all the weight with /fit/s help but traitorous scum formerly chucked as "friends" made me suicidally depressed which is kind of a buzz kill for working out so I regained all the weight, subsequently fat
fortunately I'm built different and overcame it so now we're on the way back down

>Why are you getting slim?
Tired of feeling like shit all the time, lost 35kg since I started dieting as my New Year's resolution last year. Fucked up often, and it's been slow, but it's otherwise been simple as just counting calories and eating less shit.
GF's sister wanted to lose weight, so I showed her Loseit and how I tracked everything I ate even when I had a bad day and gave in to cravings or had a cheat day for holidays/birthdays/vacations. Now she's moaning that it's not working when she's just eyeballing whatever she's had, not logging it, and then bitching that dieting doesn't work and that she should get Ozempic instead
>>
>>77052832
I was always fat.
Some of it was my family being absolutely retarded about food(like, when I didn't want to clean my plate I could leave the meat, but I HAD to eat all the potatoes, so obviously I ate everything) but some of it was me being a fat little shit with a sweet tooth who basically independently invented sweet tea(the super sugary southern US kind, and I'm from Europe). I liked reading as a kid, and I liked having something sweet when I read. We weren't rich, and there weren't like, sweets or snacks or soda around most of the time - but what was always there, was tea, lemons, and sugar. So I'd make a giant 1.5 liter pot of tea, dump 6 heaping tablespoons of sugar into it, and add some lemon to taste. I'd drink at least one of those a day, often two.
By the time I was in middle school I was over 100kg, by the time I was in high school I was over 130kg. Somehow I never got full-blown diabetes.

Parents, primarily my mom, were feeding me whole big macs (plural) when I was like 8. They aren't even overweight themselves, it was a lot of unintentional child abuse and a lot of neglect. I ended up getting a bit of a unhealthy relationship with yummy food from that. I went from overweight and borderline obese living with them until my early 20s. It wasn't as bad yet because my mom would still cook fairly healthy meals most days of the week, though the portions were still fucked up.
Then I moved out and got even fatter because I had the freedom to eat whatever I want, wherever I want, whenever I want. By itself it wasn't that damning, I often cooked lean and vegetable heavy meals for myself because I liked it and felt like it was a sustainable lifestyle. But when I had rough periods in my life, my fatass brain would come out and I'd dine out or order delivery, often times $25+ because ubereats liked putting a $25 minimum order limit on their % discount promotion codes, which was awful because I had no one to share food with.
Losing weight because I want to be healthier and to feel better piloting my meat suit. I don't binge eat when I feel down anymore, I just work out. But I know I'll still enjoy restaurant food even when I'm at a healthy weight, so my realistic expectation is to put a lot of effort to practicing healthy moderation on my journey to that point, and especially when I reach that point.

I said why I got fat in the last thread (parents, then weight loss hard stall followed by rebound)
Why slim down? I've started feeling really terrible, knees were hurting, feet were hurting, constant headaches, clothes weren't fitting, out of breath relatively quickly even from walking, just constant discomfort. I've lost enough weight now where a lot of those problems have alleviated, particularly the headaches, and I want to see how much better things get if I lose more.
Aside from that, I have a desire all of a sudden where I want to do acrobatics and calisthenics and I can't do any of the cool things in those activities at the weight I'm at. I'm short enough where those could potentially be a lot of fun.
Also it's made me too ugly. That too.

I'm a failure to launch neet
Once I graduated I just sat around my parents house getting rejected from jobs
My parents paid for a month's worth of gym membership today to see if it'd help. So the way I'm trying to view it in my mind is that I'm indebted about $2.50 of effort at the gym at the very least to my parents every day now until March.
I poured the rest of my beer down the sink and threw the box of pizza away. I'm gonna try to eat lean and clean this month with a fat burn lifting program
My running form is like a teletubby. And then I'm winded after a few minutes of running. They let me try out the equipment on my first day like holy shit do I suck as a creature
I've forgotten basically everything I studied 4 years to learn, I have no friends from highschool or college anymore in contact and I've turned into the worst aspects of my mom and dad that I thought would never happen to me. While I'm concentrating on losing weight this month I'll have time to think about what the fuck I'm doing with my life and what's wrong with me . Please god just give me the pittance of willpower to go to the gym tomorrow morning

But, I did my longest run since college on Friday, and my lifts are going up, my running splits are going down, and my weight is coming off in spades. Aiming to do a half marathon in April, then another, hillier one in July (and then one at elevation in August).

What the fuck am I supposed to do, eat a whole pizza every day? How did I get fat in the first place when you need to eat this much just to maintain?
>>
>>77052832
>why did you get fat
My parents were fat (now on Ozempic and slimmed out) and would freak out if I wasted food. Now I get stressed if I see food going to waste. I find it very hard not to finish a plate even if I didn't like the food or feel full. Whenever there is leftover food in the house that's about to be trashed, I have to resist the urge to eat it so that it's "not wasted."
>why are you getting slim
I hate my body so much that I actively stop myself from doing things I want to do because I don't want to be seen/recorded.
>>
>>
>>77052832
I've been fat since the 4th grade, never really bothered me before, I just thought it was part of who I was. Like some people are born with brown hair, some people are born fat. I decided to try not being fat for a change.

I still do this but it's because of childhood food scarcity when the best and sometimes only thing to eat was leftovers dad forgot about

I'm including my new higher activity level in the TDEE calc because I have no intention of stopping walking every day or lifting 5x a week, the sedentary number would be lower

>Why did you get fat?
I never learned how to actually process any emotion that wasn't anger so I ate my feelings away for 12 years.
>Why are you getting slim?
I want a second chance with the woman I was falling in love with and saw a future with. But I do not even want to ask her to entertain the idea until I can truly show her that I have worked on the problems I have.
As of this morning, I am down 60 pounds. I have a seriously long way to go, but that is my main motivating factor. I was originally aiming for 220lbs because that was what I had weighed before I started eating my feelings, but after another anon here made a good point, I have changed my goal to 185.
I had shown my face months ago when I first started, started hiding it because I was afraid of being recognized, but I've decided not to hide it anymore. If you happen to recognize me (or the bathroom these were taken in), that's fine.

I'm doing okay most days. My body is finally used to not getting to have 3000+ calories every day and I've found that I don't have idle snacks anymore. I knew I was past one of my biggest issues when I realized that I had not ordered a whole pizza for watching my shows on Sunday night in 3 months.
Some days are harder though, I sometimes look in the mirror and feel contempt at myself for letting it get this bad and those days are when I worry I'll break and gorge.
I haven't yet, though.
>>
>>77053711
I've been dieting ~the same time period as you (beginning of November) and I'm the anon doing a maintenance week. Binging and eating days of food at once will set you back, but maintenance only delays progress a bit. But you started a lot heavier than me so maybe you can cut longer.

Since the end of December I 've been trying to improve my diet. So far I have abandoned all carbonated drinks except club soda, I consume significantly less sugar, I eat more fruits with greek yogurt and I have replaced white bread with rye bread. I know that bread has too many carbs but it is so central to my eating habits that I struggle to completely cut it off. So far I managed to remove some submental fat. I had 2 layers and now I have 1. My stomach has also deflated slightly but I have 15 kg to go. Those following days I will start going to the gym so I can speed up the weight loss. There is however one more issue that I struggle with. I view food as emotional support. A lot of times I eat to cope with stress, anxiety and sadness and I end up overeating.

What body fat do you think you are at? Most likely you just look flabby because you have no muscle youre better served just to start working out as soon as possible. Musculature is what makes you look good, being skinny is better than fat but you will still ultimately look bad unless you put on muscle.
>>
>>
>>77053828
>i definitely shouldnt keep cutting?
the key point is to start lifting because the skinnyfat solution is to lift until one has decent amount of muscle before cutting again. if he needed the cut or wanted to get rid of fat faster.
your BMI is pretty low so if you still have a belly or love handles, you're a skinnyfat.
you can technically go twink mode and just starve yourself until you lose all the fat. you'll end up as a skelly. and it will be really hard.

Either OMAD or ADF is your friend here. Combine that with >>77053911 (or better yet begin rooning) and you'll have an easier time than trying to hit your BMR normally. Also lifting will help increase your BMR.

You're clearly untrained. 5k per day (not counting 1-2 rest days) is pretty easy to get to. Get on a program (I like Runna for half/full marathons, but I'm not sure it would be good for a true beginner like yourself) and you'll be doing 4-5 miles as your easy runs in no time.
>>
>>77053964
>not counting rest days
Not a problem when you walkmaxx
If you're training to run then by all means train to run, but walking is objectively the lowest impact, most sustainable exercise (because swimming requires a pool, otherwise walking is a close second)

265 and I would probably stop around 220 anyway, I would just strongly prefer to minimize loose skin. If it's in fact "more likely" then I will probably just do one or two very low days followed by normal days surrounding workouts.

Hey /fat/bros, I’m finally committing to working on my body since I’d like to lost at least 15-20 in the next six or so months (Male, 5’9”, <180 lbs). So far it’s just bench presses and the treadmill at home since I don’t have a gym membership, and I’m feeling pretty good about it so far. I’m going to roll with this for a good bit, but is there anything additional I could realistically start doing at home, especially centered around minimizing the size of my breasts? They’re honestly what bothers me more than the stomach fast, so I want to do my best to especially work on those, so any advice would be appreciated.

Shedding 20 pounds in a few months isnt bad, make sure you dial in your diet and calories/macros. Follow the guide in the sticky. You wont be able to outlift a bad diet.
As far as titty size goes you cant spot reduce fat if thats what your asking, fat kind of reduces pretty evenly around the body as its lost. My best advice is work on your pecs to build some actual muscle so your chest isnt as soft and lose the extra fat, the man titties will dissappear in time.
And again, weight loss is all about the diet, especially if your lifting and trying to get in shape while your in a deficit. Figure out your TDEE, figure out your deficit to fit your goals, eat for your macros and you'll be alright.

I always like to give my personal experience because people always say that losing weight fast leads to loose skin. I lost about 100 pounds within a year and got zero loose skin. Obviously it's a personal anecdote and different people are going to react differently, But I just want to point out not to take things that you hear anecdotally as gospel truth since there are always opposing anecdotes.

people are retarded
you have two options:
>lose weight fast enough that you get loose skin, lose loose skin later
or
>lose weight slowly enough that your skin tightens up while you're losing weight
option B takes MORE TIME because your skin is actively being stretched by your fat for longer

What's wrong with keto? As long as you keep it high protein and moderate fat at most and don't use it as a license to pig out in a different way, it seems fine. Not all carbs are boogeymen but maybe 70% of the food that Americans and Europeans eat are shitty refined carbs.

I've been here about 9 years ago when I was going to the gym for the first time in my life, went from 100+ to 76 in about half a year when I was in my early 20s. All in all, I didn't like how I looked at all, I was skinny af because I was dieting like a retard with shit macros barely half the daily proteins I needed.
In 2025 I was around 130, a lot of depression and years of wanting to kill myself and eating shit like a fat fuck to forget.
Now I'm back here, it's 2026, been dieting for a few months, and exercising for a full month. Went down to 106. Gotta admit chatGPT is really good to get diet and gym advices. I'm now wearing Large clothes again from XXL and I look good in them.

I was a perfectly normal person until i hit my late teens and then i don't know. I just lost my mind, became incredibly anti-social, stopped going outside or associating with people. Started heavily drinking most nights of the week and then binge eating along with it. Before you know, 10 years of my life had gone by and i was almost 400lbs. Now 2 years later and i'm 200lbs, making friends at work and starting to have a social life again. I want more for myself, i hate who i was. Also don't want to become a 40 year old KHV.

Fat all my life, since a child (parents aren't fat, 90% of relatives aren't fat, don't know how they fucked up with me) and never learned how to eat. Obese at elementary school and stayed that way until my adult life. There came a point in my early twenties when I lost a significant amount of weight. I looked good, I acted like a brand new person, got compliments all around, and was able to wear nice clothing. I have no idea why but I just let myself get fat again. Got into my bad habits of eating junk and drinking tons of alcohol. There's been ups and downs where I've lost some but always gained it all back. I was at my heaviest about two months ago, 340lbs at 5'7", and actually started to feel pain because of it. I'm trying to lose because I'm tired of living this way now and I want to feel good about myself again.

>I go on 4chan every day but I avoid /fit/ when I'm being fat. when I brose /fit/, specifically this thread daily. it helps me keep motivated. How sad is that?
It's sad and I'm the same. I wish there was a place similar to /fat/ that wasn't on 4chan, but message board culture is dead in general

Brother. Start with walking. Just walk everyday for 2h. Download a podcast. Get an Album. Anything. Walk for 2h straight. Everyday. No exceptions. Its sustainable. No rest days needed. Easily repeatable. Once you've built that habbit, go for swims. Bike rides. Whatever you feel like. You will meet people outside. You'll start feeling a lot stronger consistency is key.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>77055976
Thats the spirit. I have been on the walk strategy for about a month. Started consistently about 3 weeks ago. The weight loss is insane if you combine it with low cal intake. I shifted my goal from 10k steps to 3k cals burned a day. The measurements with google fit might not be accurate but its a good ballpark estimation.
>>
>>77056004
I use google fit too. I'll try that goal. Thanks bro I'm listening to Return of the King and plenty of of my nazi right wing podcasts so I should be able to do this. Drinking and smoking weed just kills all motivations so I need the mental fortitude to quit so it doesn't take away from my routine

I fucked up
I got bored of eating my veggies so I made a new dressing with some raw garlic in it
now, I inhaled those veggies like nobody's business so that went alright
but I forgot how ridiculously appetite stimulating raw garlic is for me, I'm sitting here and the taste of my burps is making me hungry
at least I can go sleep soon

the one time I actually lost significant amount of weight my butt shrank while I was still fat and sitting for long periods became uncomfortable since I was heavy but had no padding
don't look forward to experiencing it again

I went months having literally no junk food at all, no soda, basically just two decent meals, and when I had less good meals I had better portions
Was killing it. Now it's all gone. Back on the goyjuice. Eating junk. Eating bad portions. Ordering too much
It happened slow at first and then all at once
Really need to get back on track. I know I can do it because I have. I know it's just a matter of getting through the first two shitty weeks and then it gets easier. I know I'll feel better.
Sigh
thanks for reading my blog

this, diet soda is a cheat code. you should obviously drink water more, but diet soda is literally soda without the calories and sugar. people will tell you "but muh kidney stones" and shit, but we have yet to see solid scientific evidence of the negative long term effects of soda.
the only thing i'm willing to believe though is maybe its effect on your teeth.

don't be so hard on yourself.
your hormones might have been fucked.
here's the reminder
reminder that relapsing and gaining weight back is not the result of fatties just liking food too much.
the hormones are fucked and they know shit all about them so instead of saying they don't know, they just blame patients.
>Conclusions
>One year after initial weight reduction, levels of the circulating mediators of appetite that encourage weight regain after diet-induced weight loss do not revert to the levels recorded before weight loss. Long-term strategies to counteract this change may be needed to prevent obesity relapse.
>Results
>Weight loss (mean [±SE], 13.5±0.5 kg) led to significant reductions in levels of leptin, peptide YY, cholecystokinin, insulin (P<0.001 for all comparisons), and amylin (P=0.002) and to increases in levels of ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P=0.004), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.008). There was also a significant increase in subjective appetite (P<0.001). One year after the initial weight loss, there were still significant differences from baseline in the mean levels of leptin (P<0.001), peptide YY (P<0.001), cholecystokinin (P=0.04), insulin (P=0.01), ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P<0.001), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.002), as well as hunger (P<0.001).

Been trying to lose weight for years but no results Brehs. Thinking of just going full Goggins mode and eating only around 1200 kcals a day and doing cardio nonstop for like 12 weeks. Hopefully I survive.
The 1-2 lbs a week thing is bullshit. Way too slow for any meaningful result.

when i unsuck my gut and let my pot belly go, my front abdomens are rock hard but my obliques have no rigidity whatsoever.
i can put my finger and push inside piss easy.
i can push inside the adonis belt area too.
is it because of muscle weakness or is it because of visceral fat pushing them into disproportion?

I must try. I dont have time to waste.
Why be miserable for 6 months to a year when I can be ultra miserable for 12 weeks?
>>77056848
Anything above 2 lbs a week is considered scientifically too fast for health guidelines and leads to health complications
>>
>>
>>
>>77056852
i don't want to discourage you but my average was 1,300kcals/day for 4 months and i've only lost 24 pounds. close to half of them in the first month. and i haven't lost any weight for 3 weeks now.
my maintenance is 1,900kcals since i'm a manlet.
i haven't been walking and i only lift light weights.
weight loss is not linear for everyone. shit sucks.

I didn't ask why you were eating it, that doesn't matter.
It's a fat loss thread.
If you don't want to gain weight you will have to work out hard after you eat it reguardless of how you work. The glucose spike and carbs are great for a work out in the short term.
But I'm glad you lift, good for you lil buddy. You were just so excited to let us know.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>77057010
I am not responding to the thread. Its not relevant to the statement. If you want to eat that and be fit you will need to exercise soon after. Or at least if you want to maximize its effectiveness.
I don't need a thread worth of context for that. It is impressive you went a whole post without telling us you lift. Do you lift?
> I lift to lift
You fucking retard. Kek.
>>
>>
>>77057018
>I am not responding to the thread
>I'm too stupid to read wahwahwah
Then why bother replying? It's a single post that gives you all the context you need to not come off as a subhuman retard but you can't even do that, why are you giving anyone else advice?
Didn't read the rest of your post, sorry to hear about it or glad that happened

read: doctors would be legally liable
>and leads to health complications
nonsense, how can the same number be recommended as a blanket term? you're telling me that an otherwise healthy man in his 20s can't lose more weight than a 60yo woman?
it's the equivalent of speed limits, it's an agreed upon number. you can go above the speed limit, it's not really a problem. unless you go stupidly fast, then you're probably in danger, but it's not a clear line, like you lose 2lbs a week and you're fine but lose 3lbs a week and suddenly you are fucking dying? give me a fucking break.
If you are very fat you can easily lose 4lbs a week, and if you're motivated and otherwise healthy (apart from being fat) 3lbs is a good goal to set.

I did OMAD and cardio and dropped a lot. My body fat dropped to 23% from 32%, but I want to push it down to the teens. How do I do this without further muscle loss? I have loss 1 kg of muscle, especially in my arms and trunks. My right arm is listed as severely under developed. I can't go to the gym and there is no weight in my house.

Dry meat with 0% fat is broken.
Skyr (0% fat curd) is broken.
Whey is broken.
Look for a bunch of vegetables that you actually like, for me it's leek, bell peppers, yellow onions...
Without those cheat codes, dieting would be literally impossible, but with them it's easy mode.

chin ups for biceps and modified push ups for triceps.
get adjustable dumbbells and a bench then you'll upgrade into triceps extensions and curls. progression with body weight is torture.
